If anyone wants to read about some fantastic shooting of muzzleloaders check out Walter Cline's book, The Muzzleloading Rifle. He had facsimiles of targets made at what most call long range at witnessed matches. And account's of the heavy bench guns making INCREDIBLE shots during the ACW.

pics of what's on the book. The book goes into greater detail about precision shooting with muzzleloaders. They measured groups differently in those times, but a tight group is a tight group, regardless.

I'm sure they used, at least, an aperture sight. The book tells of many more shoots, in the mountains, with Sgt York and his brother being very active with muzzleloaders into the 1930s. It goes into detail as to sights allowed.
