Well, there is seems to be no doubt that Fabian23 is correct in his identification of the pistol as a Dutch M1820. Here is a link to a Dutch site, Bolk-Antiques, that deals in firearms, clocks, books, armour, books, etc. Very high quality items. The main site link:

http://www.bolk-antiques.nl/

The link to the Dutch M1820 pistols that they currently have in inventory:

http://www.bolk-antiques.nl/showimagebig.cfm?cat=1209&subcat=2186&aid=239606&the_start=98

Click on the small pictures at the top of the frame to see sharply focused larger versions.

The chief difference between these and the one illustrated by BMC is the tang markings, his shows "M1821", the two at Bolk are marked "M1820". Confusing, yes, but I don't think there is any doubt that BMC has a scarce Dutch military pistol.

BMC, if you are still following, is it possible that you have misread the Model date on the barrel tang?

Hello again,
sorry I haven't check the site lately, my wife hasn't been doing well and I have not had very much time to do much.
Wow Dutch. what great information. I have checked again and it is 1821 with no doubts, but looking at the pictures from the site it really is a match. what a long way from the story that I was told when I bought it. Thank you all for the great input.
