Is Elk brand measuring tubes accurate? I use PRB and Triple 7 loose powder in a 45 cal pedersoli rifle.

Risks of measuring your charge with the spout/suggested charges? (percussion pistol)

I'm relatively new to black powder shooting and I was wondering if there are any potential hazards if I were to measure a charge with an 18 grain spout versus using a powder measure to load the same size charge. I own a Pietta 1851 Navy "Yank" in .36 caliber and I have a colt style powder...

    Drams to Grains?

Howdy all, I just received my first powder flask in the mail today. It's a James Dixon & Son's & Sheffield flask with an adjustable spout measure. However its marked as "drams" and it begins with 2, going up to 3 as follows. 2, 2 1/4, 2 1/2, 2 3/4, 3. I can't find any consistent conversions...

Dyeing Deer-Antler Powder Measures with McCormick Food Coloring

Had trouble with my old eyes discerning the markings on some of my deer-antler powder measures. They came originally from October Country and are actual hand-made items made in America?!!! My solution was to enlist the aid of McCormick, who make food coloring. These can be used to dye eggs...

What to use for a powder measure?

I've got a little brass flask for dispensing powder, but what should I use to actually measure it (it's a .54 so I'd say maybe 35 grains of GOEX FFF)? Are there devices for that or should I just get a small tube and start counting. For everyone who was following my old thread about the antique...

SOLD Pan Primer and Fish Motif Measure

Here goes nothing, y'all. I got a fish looking scrimshaw antler powder measure and an antler pan primer that looks unintentionally inappropriate. It might be a hit at your next rendezvous. I will personalize it with your name or a hunter's star or weeping heart or any of the old symbology...

1st attempt at antler powder measures

I made these bad boys for a blanket shoot coming up. "Primitive decoration" with rudimentary tools. Files and a scratch awl. 30, 60, and 90 grs. Gunpowder and water to fill the scratches. The final on the 60 grain measure was turned on an old Dremel Moto-lathe. Any tips or tricks I should know...
