    Burst Barrel

I can't say weather or not the gun originally came from Mississippi or not, I don't know the manufacture. On another forum, a poster identified the maker of the gun, stating that he is from TN. He also stated that the gun maker machined his own barrels. As to the type of steel used, I simply...

    Burst Barrel

Sorry for my long silence on the matter. As to basic info, I'm not sure what charge/ball combo was used. I had originally bought the gun at Friendship a few years ago. I see now that someone has identified the builder. I was going to Friendship this summer and was going to try to find the...

    Burst Barrel

A few years ago, I traded a .32 cal rifle for a .62 cal smooth-bore. Looked to be styled as a "Tulle" but had an English lock. I sold it to a friend of mine last fall. It appeared to be a well made gun and I did some good shooting with it. My friend did well with it, having the lock and...

    New England Fowler Range

I have also found that even in modern situations you ask any soldier that fired, he will tell you that he don't know about anyone else, but the rounds he fired all hit. Adrenalin is a powerful aphrodisiac. Tend to believe that at Bunker/Breeds hill, given the shortage of ammunition on the...

    Bought loaded Hawken

You have to be particularly careful on any "bargain" muzzle loaders you find in pawn shops as well. I have been to three different shops, looked at 5 to 6 ML's (Usually CVA or Thompson Center "economy" guns) and have found them all to be loaded. Carry a dowel rod as another poster suggested...

    1803 Harpers Ferry Rifle Repro

After reviewing all the good advice given, I have re-thought the 1803 situation. I have looked at the kit from Track and also one from Pecatonica River. I think if I do decide to get an 1803, it will be one of these. Thanks to all for the sound advice given.

    1803 Harpers Ferry Rifle Repro

I have seen discussions on this weapon on this forum before. At the mention of Lewis and Clark, the discussion deteriorated rather quickly. I don't want to start another "spirited discussion" about who carried what and when. What I just want to know is the Euroarms version any good or a piece...

    History of The Loading Block

For these reasons, I personally feel that these (and other articles) may have existed. I guess there is two sides to the coin, prove it exited Vs prove it didn't. However remember I am a heretic; I have facial hair, carry ball blocks, a haversack, heck, I even have an "Indian" musket...

    Coyotes

I agree. I also think that we in the East have more coydogs than actual western coyotes. They are bigger and more aggressive. To the gentleman referring to Big Bear, I was in the Marine Corps in 1988 and we deployed a radar unit to Big Bear. We had alerts and warnings about straying off...

Thanks to everyone who responded to my query. I had not even heard of a false muzzle until I read this post. Did not mean to hijack the original post.

Please forgive my ignorance, but why would you need a "false muzzle?"

    Wter bottels, Leather canteens

A friend gave me a nice leather canteen a few years back. It was sealed with brewers pitch. Problem was, after a while the pitch became brittle and started breaking up and falling out. I need to get it fixed because I really liked it and was greatful to my friend for the gift.

    True Grit...

I hope I'm not giving anything away to those who haven't seen the movie yet but I was hoping that it would have been Kim Darby who played the "older Mattie Ross" at the end of the movie. That would have been a great tie-in to the original. I to feel that the young lady who played Mattie Ross...

    French 1777 Charleville Musket

I traded an AR-15 clone for a new Japanese Charleville back in the early '90's. Took some getting used to with round ball. I have shot both patched balls and "naked" balls with great success. I would recommend a good Charleville without hesitation. Do your shopping, get advise from...
