Any particular goals for 2012 fall Hunting season?

Take my .25 flint out and get some tree rats and maybe a bunny or two. A bonus turkey would be great! A nice buck would be great with my .50 flint but a doe would be fine. They eat just as well and are sometimes the smarter of the two. Put in for the Chincoteague NWR Sika hunt again this...

    Southern Rifle

Where did you get the ramrod tip? I just finished my .25 and would love to get one for my ramrod to protect the tip on the ramrod that took a LONG time to thin down.

    Inspired by Stumpy

I'm glad I am not the only person who hunts down these little tins. My daughter thinks I am nuts when I take her empty tins. Useful for all sorts of little items.

    Finished first rifle from parts

Well, took her to the range today and had a lot of fun. Had a few minor problems at first but nothing too bad. Had to scrape a little off the inside of the lock inlet where the sear goes in. After finishing the rifle the combination of sealant must have made the slightest difference in...

    Finished first rifle from parts

Bill, Dave is great. I got the plank from him and he inlet the barrel and did the ramrod channel. He does a rough shaping from the lock back but leaves LOTS of wood so you can do whatever you want. His castings are also top notch. It's also great that he is only about 30 min from me....

    Finished first rifle from parts

Thanks for all the compliments. I plan on trying to get out with it this weekend so I'll give a shooting report as soon as I can. Someone asked about the barrel. It is 42" straight sided 3/4" Ed Rayle barrel. I am going to weigh the rifle as soon as I get new batteries for the bathroom...

short starter, loading block and tin

I recently finished a .25 tree rat rifle and needed some small caliber supplies. Made a short starter from some leftover ramrod and deer antler, a loading block from some maple scrap and "re-purposed" an Altoids tin into a container to hold those small patches.

    Finished first rifle from parts

Well, I finally finished my first rifle from parts, not a kit. It was a long learning process and I would really like to thank my friend Bill D for his help and guidance during this project. I started with... Wood from Dave KeckChambers Late Ketland lock.25 cal barrel from Ed RayleSome...

    staining?

I used orange stain before the maple. Makes the stock look like a pumpkin, but you steel wool it almost all the way back. Made the grain pop with my latest project.

    shortening the length of pull

The problem is that when you remove the buttplate and shorten the stock it changes the size of the end of the stock and the buttplate probably won't fit right again without some serious filing and reshaping. It will also most likely need to have the stock refinished where the buttplate meets...

    Short Starter

I just made one tonight for my new 25 cal. I used some leftover ramrod bits and a piece of antler. Going to the range for the first time with it this weekend. Have a range rod but needed something to get those little buckshot pellets started. The one thing I didn't want to do was break my...

Looking for two traditional long rifle cases

Tip Curtis always has some nice cloth padded cases for a VERY reasonable price at Dixons each year. I am sure if you called him he could fix you up with some before the Dixons get-together.

    Small game rifle

I am almost done with a .25 in the style of Fordney. It is very slim and uses a 42" barrel made by Ed Rayle and the wood is from Dave Keck. A friend has a similiar one and it pushes a #4 buckshot out at around 1800fps. A great squirrel/rabbit killer.
