    Brand / type of muzzleloader

I'm a ways away from you as I live 2 hours north of Detroit. I have been out shooting & I'm pretty happy with the traditions. I would like to some day pick up something nicer, but I'm in no big hurry. Thanks for all the replies ! Dan

Your starting to get closer to me (Minden city swamp) But I hunt another 30 miles (guessing) north of there near the Verona swamp game area. I have hunted the tire swamp north of minden city. Yes the folks at Kenockee trading post are good people ! Dan

    Brand / type of muzzleloader

I too am born & raised here in Michigan, been here 51 years now ! (might tell ya I'm not bright enough to get the heck out  ) I live in the Thumb (northern tip, I enjoy the rural life) I was to Kenockee trading post a few months back, that's where one of the tradition guns came from...

    Brand / type of muzzleloader

You nailed it ! That is a definate problem for me, just wondering if it's an issue or if I might be going :youcrazy:  I will get one in the next few years, I really enjoy the traditional archery events and from what I hear I might enjoy the muzzleloading events more as a friend has...

    Brand / type of muzzleloader

The one deer hunter I have is older with the fixed sights, that was something I didn't think about so I'm glad you mentioned that ! Maybe I should leave the Honda in the garage  I am also into traditional archery & use just a stick & string (so I know & love traditional stuff) but I...

    Brand / type of muzzleloader

Ok, I'm not new to the hobby as I have hunted with a muzzleloader for over 30 years. What I am new to is flintlocks & thinking about going to traditional shooting events. I am really starting to get interesting in going to events here in Michigan (maybe even the big one in Friendship In.)...

Wondering the age of my traditions flintlock

I am going to keep the old lock for parts, I like having spare parts laying around. Dan

Wondering the age of my traditions flintlock

It's not made in Italy, it has made in Spain stamped on the barrel, the serial # starts with 277xxx.

Wondering the age of my traditions flintlock

I don't need to know the exact year or anything, just curious on the approximate age. I just put a new traditions lock on it so don't use that to guess. It is a deer hunter version & most of them I see are 1 - 48 twist , this one is 1 - 66. Im Just curious :hmm: Thanks, Dan

Why are some locks better than others ?

I'm just curious as I am thinking of putting a L&R lock in my traditions deer hunter. I am converting this gun to flintlock & for about $50 more I can get a L&R lock that is made to replace the traditions lock. I'm pretty mechanical, I understand metals as I work in a machine shop & I know the...

    Installing a vent liner

Hmmmmmm...................... Thats a large plug, I remember reading somewhere it was best to use a small liner. I don't know why, but I read it here somewhere. Using a large bolt would eliminate the thread inside a thread concept of tapping the drum. Hmmmmmmmmmm.............. Thanks for all...

    Installing a vent liner

I have studied that very pic, it's where I noted no threads or sharp edges were in the bore. I also noted the pic below from this post. http://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/243154/ I don't know if I am ready to try installing a breach plug or not, but I am going to sleep...

    Installing a vent liner

I'm playing around with parts I have laying around (I enjoy doing things like this) I am converting a traditions percussion deer hunter into a flintlock. I have read numerous posts & done Internet searches on this & I understand what I need to do. I will not remove the Nipple barrel, I will...

Looking for a barrel maker to replace my pistol barrel

I figured it out, just posting as maybe someone else might want to do something like this in the future & I had to send a lot of emails & talked to a lot of good gun builders, I learned a lot along the way. Jason Schneider @ Rice Barrels will make the 32 cal blank in 7/8 octagon. Joe Luckett...

Looking for a barrel maker to replace my pistol barrel

That is part of the problem as I need 7/8, I saw a website showing Rice pistol barrels in 32 cal that were 7/8. I would need a breach plug installed & the barrel would need dovetailed for sights. If it is a 12 inch blank I would like it shortened to under 10 inches. Is that something Ed Rayl...

Looking for a barrel maker to replace my pistol barrel

I have re-worded my question from my previous post, I am looking for someone who can replicate my trapper barrel in to a 30 cal version. Rice barrels seems to be the only supplier who does 32 cal in a 7/8 barrel so who can finish machine a 32 cal Rice barrel to drop into my 50 cal traditions...

    Newbie project questions

I don't know if a kit would be cheaper or not, it might be, but I have this gun and I like doing stuff that people say you cannot do as I usually learn a lot from it. I will be the first to admit I usually learn that it was not the way to go  but to go to school & learn something...
