Does anyone have the contact info for the guy from St. Louis who made the white flints?

    cabelas rifle

I tried the nipple in a TC and it was loose. Could be that the threads are worn down. I will have the guy who owns the rifle try a new nipple.

    cabelas rifle

Does anyone know what the thread is on the nipple for a Cabelas Blue Ridge Rifle? I have tried the nipple in 1/4 28 and 6mmx1 guns and it is smaller. It's to big for the 12-28 on a Patriot pistol. I've looked through the listings on TOTW and they don't have anything that says its for this...

    .54 loads?

Probably about as long as since I was on here. My Colerain likes 60 gr Goex fff with a .535 ball and .018 ticking for target work. More serious applications and I kick it up to 90. Good out to 200 yards in our silhouette matches. Really? I've been on this forum for 11 years? Sheesh...

    Jaeger vs Longrifle

Many years ago at the Ft. Davis rondy I was in a shoot that was to take a small cup of water off the top of a balloon without breaking the ballon. I was shooting a .54 Renegade with 50 gr 2f. At my first shot my balloon popped. So did the next one in line that was 5 feet to the side. Range...

    Jaeger vs Longrifle

I think it says that they cut the barrel down to where the seated ball was flush with the end of it. They collected the unburned powder and it was 1/12 of the charge. Since the powder would burn in the air I think they reached the wrong conclusion about the importance of barrel length.

T/C Patriot in .45 vs. Lyman Plains Pistol in .54?

The problem with the Lyman is that the grip has a round cross section and is miserable for consistent grip. I shoot a Lyman that was built from a kit and I never did anything to the stock. It has some chines on the grip that make for consistent hand placement and more joy in shooting. My pet...

    .54 Caliber Accuracy

If you are developing a hunting load, you wouldn't want to use spit patch. Mink oil works pretty well if you are going to have the gun loaded all day. I would bump the powder up to 80 grains also.

    By request, Loooong range shoot...

In Firearms, Traps and Tools, Judge Ernest Resley and John Barsotti reported 9 inch groups at 200 yards from one of the judge's heavy 54 caliber barrels using 187 grains of FFg. The last gun I built was an ugly thing built around one of these barrels, so I guess I will have to give it a try...

    conicals in ROA

I see that lee makes a .456 mold. Any comments on using these or other conicals?

    What Barrel Co.

I have one Colerain barrel on an Issac Haines and it shoots better than I do. Two more that I haven't wrung out yet are a Sharon and a Resley. I'm going to have to make it a point to give them a good run out this spring.

    Renegade trigger question

The single trigger Renegades were sometimes called the Renegade Hunter. Had one for my first rifle. The trigger bow was a little bigger to allow a gloved finger on the trigger and it didn't have the curly cues behind. I got to wanting a set trigger for target work and ran onto someone with a...

    My Little Powder Pig

Looks pretty good. You didn't say what size ball you were using. Going to a .005 larger ball might let you get good groups with a lighter load.

Tips for shooting better at 25 yards?

Colonial style pistols are very sensitive to hand placement. Moving up or down on the grip will cause vertical stringing. Moving around will cause horizontal change in the poi. I saw one mention of dry firing with a rubber washer and that can be good practice. Another good drill is for...

    Western Arms Corp Hawken Rifle

I've seen the early Santa Fe Hawkens go for twice what you paid for that one. Mine is serial number 5xxx and is a true 54. The originals were 53 cal but, from what I have heard, the repros in that caliber had a problem with cleaning patches hanging up in the breech. Winchester sued for...

    Non-Toxic Round Balls

Ok, let me throw out a new one. Not saying its really practical, but its possible. Werewolf bullets. Silver is more expensive than the solder that was mentioned in some of the posts, but you could use a dirt backstop and recover the ones you shoot in practice. It has density 10.5 which is...

    Powder for my .36 cal....?

That seems like a lot of powder to get a dry ball out. I usually use about 5 gr.

    The Great .40

Seems like I read something about the kind of wood used for the charcoal can make a big difference. Might have been in the Foxfire 5 article. Comes to mind the article also said something about using stale urine when he mixed the chemicals made for an increase in power.

    custom roundball mould makers?

And correspondingly expensive. I have one of Jeff's molds but I haven't shot any ball from it yet.
