Can anyone recommend a place to find a good shooting box?

I'm really looking to buy online if possible. I'm looking for 'that' shooting box that just has all the right drawers and slots, etc. for all your shooting needs while down at the range, preferably custom and wooden... I'd love to build my own, but I'm shacked up in an apartment now, so all...

    Flintlock maintainance question?

I know some here may not believe me, but I had about 300 shots out of my Jim Chambers lock. I test fired like a madman when I built the gun and then fired a lot more after that. It may even be more than 300. The Jim Chambers locks are amazing.

    Pedersoli Flintlocks

I've got the Pedersoli in .50. It's fairly accurate, but my barrel has some runout... Something that I didn't know to look for when I bought it. Also the patent breach is a major pain to keep clean. I learned the hard way... I had so much powder residue down there that I thought I was...

    The "spit" patch

I typically use a spit patch when shooting. I'll put a dry patch in my mouth, pour my powder in the barrel, then ram the patch and ball. I like doing this because it seems to me that my bore gets much less fowling than using a patched lube. My friend says that I could potentially rust the...

    First rifle finished!

I whiskered the stock 4 times, followed by 2 coats of Laurel Mountain Forge stain in Lancaster maple. After that, I did about 5 or 6 coats of Tru-Oil with minor 0000 steel wooling in between finishes. After that, I did two polishings with Birchwood Casey Stock Sheen & Conditioner. I may still...

    CVA Kentuck Flintock Pistol project

The pistol looks great! I'd love to build one someday. What caliber is it?

    Cool Product

Those things are great. I think most of them will go down to .40 cal. Don't make the mistake that I did and leave it turned on and forget about it!

    First rifle finished!

I finished my first rifle a couple of days ago. Not only was it my first rifle, but my first real time working with wood! It was a lot of fun and I hope to build another soon. This is an Isaac Haines kit in .54 from TOTW with a 38" Rice barrel. I hope you enjoy and go easy on a first time...

Shooting the new MS Virginia by Allen Martin

It was prompting me to join photobucket for the video.

    Kentucky Rifle build

I considered installing a screw through the trigger plate to contact the trigger. I figured that I could then adjust the relationship between the trigger and the seer. Perhaps this would be helpful in a target vs. hunting with cold hands type situation. Makes more sense to me than set...

Safety checklist for newly built gun

That is a very real concern and I debated that. Tonight I tested it out. I swabbed with 5 patches with #13 bore cleaner, followed by a few dry patches and then a few with bore butter. Fortunately, none of them got stuck. I examined each patch and did not notice any tearing at all. Perhaps...

Safety checklist for newly built gun

Hey all, My first build, an Isaac Haines in .54 from TOTW could very well be assembled by the end of this week. The build went well and I believe everything is just right. I was just curious if anyone has any procedures that they use to check gun safety prior to firing first? Any particular...

    Stock finishing questions *pics*

Thanks guys. I was hesitant to use steel wool after reading some threads about it sticking in the wood grain. However, before I read those threads, I used steel wool on the hunters star area to get a nice sheen to it. Afterwards, I could see where the wool was sticking in the wood, but only...

    Is Tru-Oil safe for inlays

Thanks everyone. I will try Zonie's trick or perhaps wipe it off while it is still wet. I neglected to mention that I still have the trigger plate installed, so I'd have to worry about that too. Could be tough to tape that up, so perhaps I'll do a combination of the two. Thanks! :hatsoff:

    Stock finishing questions *pics*

Hello all, I know I already made a thread about Tru-Oil and inlays, but I have a couple different questions now. I've applied my first coat of Laurel Mountain Forge Lancaster Maple stain on my stock. It looks much darker than the test stains that I applied before from wood of the same blank...

    Is Tru-Oil safe for inlays

Once I'm done with whiskering and staining, I am going to apply BC Tru-Oil and Stock Sheen and Conditioner. I have already inlaid a hunter's star in the cheek piece. Is it OK to run the Tru-Oil and Sheen stuff over this brass inlay? Should I avoid it at all costs?

What is the symbolism of the "hunter's star"?

It's seen on many Lancaster rifles, etc. and I don't know it's origins. Does anyone know where this common inlay originated?

    Cabela's Blue Ridge Flintlock

I have one in .50 and it does not have a hooked breech. It does have a patent breech, so make sure you get a small enough brush to clean that out. I learned the hard way! It's not bad for a shelf gun and mine shoots well. All things considered and for the price, the lock is fair and I feel...

    Ron Ehlert passes away ...

That's terrible to hear that. His videos have been invaluable with building my first rifle. My condolences to his family and friends...

Well, I messed up the outside of my stock tonight

Hmmm... Now I'm thinking about filing down some maple down to a dust and mixing that with a small amount of glue, thus making a sort of paste. We'll see.
