Thoughts on Traditions Pennsylvania Flintlock Muzzleloading Rifle 50 Caliber

You'd be better off buying a used T/C. If there are any pawn shops around your area I'd look there before you shell out any money first.

    Made a reloading block today!

get some Tri-oil gun stock finish. It's very durable and easy to use. BLO is not very durable and it will wear off besides to maintain a gun using BLO is a pain. I have a can of the stuff that is 35 years old and the stuff left on the outside of the can is like rubber...not hard. Something else...

    10 Bore Pressures?

I have a Dixie 10, I don't shoot it much because it's not worth the beating you receive. That's going to be one heck of a kicker. Better make it a heavyweight.

    Traditions Frontier Rifle

If you don't mind I'd wait and save a little more money. Lyman & T/C are a far better made rifle. You may find it hard to come by a T/C now since the company has been sold. Either brand is good. :v

Good vs Bad Sprue Shooting Test: Lee Mold

I use to have my round balls from my Lee molds do what yours is but I solved that problem by not holding my dipper tight against the sprue plate. It allowed the air to escape from under the plate. I also made sure the vent line on the mold halfs were clean. It's odd that you get away running you...

How to clean brass powder measure & funnel?

I usually use 0000 steel wool and what ever metal polish I have laying around. Brasso works pretty good. You will never keep brass shiny from one year to the next.

Rounded lands or grooves at muzzle?

That is a decorative touch done to the grooves of the barrel. It is not coning. It does look cool but doesn't have any real function other than maybe holding the patch so it stays centered. :idunno:

What do you think about my pattern?

Your pattern is a lot like mine at that distance. I have a jug choke in a 41 " barrel. Some of the advice your getting may help and some will not .Since you have a jug choke using wad material may not work to tighten things up. You can tighten up your pattern using less powder but the energy...

    Moose Milk

There are hundreds of mixtures out there and you can spend a good amount of time trying to find something that will fit you need. We as shooters have a vast amount of information to pull from. I'm in the same boat as most here when it comes to lubes. It will drive you nuts...everyone claims his...

    58 cal lyman mold trouble

Don't really know if this relates or not but I was having an issue with my lyman 45/70 mold not filling out properly and I found a web site on casting that helped me tune my mold to get the best out of it if eveything else is right. It talked about cleaning and stoning the mold blocks to get the...

    wads and jug choke

I'm hoping. to use my fowler this spring on turkeys if the weather isn't to wet. I have my barrel jug choked and was wondering if I use a loose fitting paper wad would I get the full benefit of the choke. I want to keep the leading of the barrel down so everytime I use it I don't have to scrub...

    10ga Pedersoli

This subject has been talked before on this forum if you do a search you will pretty much get the same answers that your getting now. I have the same gun and I've tried everything but come to realize turkey hunting with my 10 gage is going to be an up close kind of deal. Backing down on a...

    best flints

I get my Flints at Dixons when I'm at the gun fair. Best to hand pick if possible. English works OK for me in my English and my Haines rifles. Sawn flint last longer in my sons Lyman GPR. I buy the clear ones if possible. I tried english in the GPR but it wears them down pretty quick (L&R...
