    Flintlock Hog Kill

Went hog hunting two weeks ago with my son. Killed a nice 225 lbs hog with my .54 caliber flintlock. Shot the hog at 35 yards. Patched round ball over 85 grains Swiss resulting in through and through shot, rib fragments in the exit wound. Dropped the hog on the spot. Round balls pack a big punch.

    Made Meat

Nice, nice work young, strong man! Congrats as well. Nice rifle. I’ve got a custom .54 flinter with a 38” swamped barrel. I’m thinking hard about getting a .62 flinter - I know those “thump” seriously hard. Merry Christmas.

Help with Jäger Rifle .62 Loads

Try a lubed fiber wad. These work well in my .54 with zero patch burning.

    Any Pedersoli Mortimer shooters?

80 grains Swiss ffg, .530 swaged round ball, lubed 54 caliber wad over powder, .18 lubed patch. Accuracy is outstanding in my Flintlock Mortimer.

    Kevin Blevins flintlocks

Nothing but the highest praise for Kevin’s work. I own a .36 SMR and a .54 transitional rifle he he built. Both are flinters, both have rice barrels and both shoot way better than I do. I killed at nice 9 point buck at 60 yards with the .54. Very solid work, very solid guns, unbelievable wood in...

Hunt in the rain rifle cover someone made?

The Leatherman makes a fantastic product I swear by. The owner is also the manufacturer and a simply great guy. See LC-900 Lock Cover.

    Those pesky Pedersoli Patent (Breeches)

I use a patch wrapped .22 bore brush also to clean the patent breech and it works well for me. Additionally, I wrap the .22 bore brush with a .22 rifle cleaning patch when I swab out the patent breech. When range shooting, I typically use a .54 caliber circle fly wad underneath a patched ball...

Another great video from cap& ball.

Pedersoli muzzleloaders are pretty damn good. I’ve got several along with 4 or 5 custom guns. I’ve got a Pedersoli 54 cap lock jaeger with a 1:24 twist that is devastating with 90 grains Swiss FFg over a .54 No Excuse bullet. Unbelievable power with great accuracy. Perfect Hog buster.

    Felt wad in rifles

I like lubed circle fly fiber wads (shotgun type) seated under a patched roundball in my 54 flintlock radius grooved barrel. Scrapes and lubes the bore between shots, eliminates patch cutting and patch scorching and, in my rifle, improves accuracy.
