    Custom built vs. kit guns

Gosh I don't know, how about "because I'm paying for it, that's what I want, and it's none of your business, thank you very much"? Just a thought...

    which to choose ?????

Well, I'd go with the fusil de chasse myself, sounds like a great position to be in though. :hatsoff: Spot

Smoothbore for deer and smale game?

For what you have in mind, it might not be too bad as long as you know where that ball is going. However, one bad shot and you could pepper the deer with shot while missing with the ball. What I was referring to is "buck and ball" loads - 3 or 4 buckshot with a roundball. For hunting, it's not...

Smoothbore for deer and smale game?

A 28-gauge will be plenty for deer or wild boar with a roundball. As for placing a roundball on top of shot, that isn't normally recommended and wouldn't be legal where I hunt. Spot

Smoothbore for deer and smale game?

Well, first of all, WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!! We really, truly are happy to have you here. It would seem to me that you have a pretty good attitude for someone starting out with muzzleloading guns and will do very well in this hobby. :hatsoff: For maximum flexibility, I would agree...

    Ballistics and Long Guns

Hey there Tahli, Welcome to the forum. No, I wouldn't consider inconsistent 3 ft groups at 100 yards typical. You should be able to do much better than that. If I may ask, can you be more specific about your rifle? I know you said it is a .50 flintlock, can I ask who built it? Is it a custom...

    Diamondback Powder..

If it's the same as the old Elephant powder I would pass. I don't have lots of experience with Elephant, but what I had was the dirtiest powder I ever used.

    Navy Arms 12 Gauge Questions

Congratulations Luie B!!! I had a Navy Arms double a few years back, but mine was made by Pietta, so will likely be a bit different. I will say that I currently own a Pedersoli SXS, and I like it much better than the Pietta I had. The Pietta was fine, it was just a little more persnickety than...

I was almost ready to give up on my flinter

I just thought of this - are there any other problems with the rifle? How does the barrel fit to the stock? I shoot a fairly hot load for a .40 since I use it for deer (65 grains of 3f), so I actually glass bedded mine.

I was almost ready to give up on my flinter

I, too, would be interested in knowing what ball/patch combo you're using. 70 grains of 3f in a .45 is a fairly hot load, not TOO hot of course, but have you tried a lower powder charge? I'd sure like to see some pics of that Tennessee if you have any, I have a TVM Tennessee in .40 and I have...

My First Custom is a TVM VA
