    Now my next problem....

I'm 0/2 on locks!! Today was daughters first day of kindergarten so I took day off and went to the range with my .36 cal Virginia by tip curtis. First two shots were great. Bullseye as a matter of fact. On the third shot the hammer fell only to half cock and stopped. I tried a few more times...

    Help with my lock

I have a new Siler lock that came with my TVM early Virginia. I've noticed that the square stud that comes out of the lockplate to hold the hammer is at a slight angle and not square. When I tighten down the hammer it cocks the hammer in towards the barrel rather than square to the face of the...

Do I need to lube the wad?

On my 1/2 fiber wads do they have to be lubed? The load I described earlier this week that gave superior accuracy was powder, card, unlubed wad, ball, card. Nothing in the shot string was lubed. Tried lubed wad tonight and not as accurate. Do I have to lube?

    Found THE load!!!

So if you have followed my posts the past few weeks, you know I've been struggling to find a load that even provided some consistency. Last week I posted that 110 grains of 2f with a .600 ball and .015 patch provided the best accuracy. So inspired by Briysmoothy I went out and tried some 3f...

    Getting closer

Thanks to everyone for their advice . My 18" inch groups have shrunk to 4" but I had to stoke her all the way up to 110 grains of 2f. Started today at 90 grains going up in 5 grain increments. Each 5 shot group got progressively smaller. Ran out of wads but the gun seems to like more powder...

New 20 GA smooth rifle help

Hi all, Finally got a chance to shoot my new 20 GA smooth rifle last night and very frustrated. Off a bench with bags the best group I got was about 12 inches. Just no consistency at all. Using 2f I ranged between 90 and 70 grains firing 3 shot groups. Tried this sequence with both .018 and...

    Thoughts on my load

Guys, I've been dabbling with a load for my Caywood Trade gun for over a year now. I've tried every possible combination of powder (2f and 3f), every type of wad and every type of shot size and weight. She is jug choked full and definitely likes less powder. By a clear margin I've settled on...

Help with sight in- out of adjustment

I have a .45 cal flinter that shoots low about 18" at 50 yards. I'm shooting .440 balls and have tried patches from .010 to .018. I have filed the front sight all the way down and have no more room. Still way low. Any ideas?

    Refinish factory lyman GPR

Hello. I have a factory finished lyman GPR that i am interested in refinishing the stock on. The finish is so dull and dark. I am hoping for some thoughts on how to do this? Should i try some stripper and perhaps steel wool? Overall i'd like to lighten it up and then refinish with true oil...
