    Brass Frame Remington

I agree, the tolerance for error allowed in the spring may as well be light years compared to the hand itself. Keep the hand, replace the spring. If you replace the hand you will need to judiciously copy the old one assuming it was correct in the first place.

    Brass Frame Remington

You could always do a coil spring and plunger conversion and never worry about it breaking again. I don't think I ever seen it done on a little 1863.

Can confirm - most over-ball lube goes away

Referred to often as Gatofeo's Lube, or Gatofeo No. 1 Gatofeo does not claim to have "Invented" the recipie, but simply posted on another forum that he found it in an old 1943 American Rifleman article and that he used it with great success. From there the excellent recipe has grown to urban...

Can confirm - most over-ball lube goes away

Yes Bore Butter is to thin to be ideal to top off your chambers, but it will serve the purpose of aiding in keeping the fouling soft enough to clean up. Even though it probably made a mess of it's own. It saved you range session anyway and filled in good enough to keep you going. Sometime we...

Little new to the BP world. Need some insite.

Not to ignore other facts, but it could be argued that the single most important thing to understand with Black Powder is that unlike smokeless powder you never leave an air gap between the powder charge and the projectile. That can cause catastrophic failure. That said, Download the User...

Shooting a cap-n-ball into the wind

Words of wisdom stated a little more colorfully about doing something else into the wind. Now that I'm a man of property, I seldom shoot at a public range. How often do you find ranges set up into the prevailing wind?

    Carrying a percussion pistol

I'm guessing it's in reference to very short lengths of aquarium tubing used to hold a cap on the nipple and protect against exposure to the elements.

    proof house markings

for what it's worth, all the C&B kit's I've handled (maybe a dozen)came "in the white", some had proofs, some didn't, same with serial numbers. The marked ones were in the minority.

Identifying the difference in colt cylinder replica manufactures

If you are trying to fit them to your own revolvers, just try them out by comparing size and then see if they work. If your goal is to sell them off, then accurate diameter and length measurements, along with # of cylinders, and caliber, plus a high quality photo of the back of the cylinder...

Identifying the difference in colt cylinder replica manufactures

On a tangent of finding a cylinder to fit the Lyman revolver. Lyman imported Italian Revolvers, and all the Lyman Revolvers I've seen have been made by either Armi San Paolo or Uberti and had the Makers marks visible. Look for an overlapping DGG for Armi San Paolo or a U inside an octagon for...

    ROA cylinder mods

I understand some folks like to shoot "Mouse Fart" sized loads, just don't see why some insist we all should. No real reason to worry about shooting a full chamber of 4F since the ROA was designed and tested for that by Ruger. Experimenting and enjoying the results of different loads, with...

    bp revolver

Sorry, but to stop the spread of misinformation I'm compelled to point out that this is an Urban Legend that I have heard spread often. The fact is that prior to 2004 Michigan law required a "purchase Permit" aka "Registered" to buy BP pistols legally, but since 2004 they are considered...

    bp revolver

I am in Michigan. I have ordered BP "Firearm" from Cabela's. Cabela's will not ship an order entered online to Michigan, you need to call the Firearms Department on the phone. They also require a verification of information form to be filled out and NOTARIZED before they will ship to Michigan...

    Walker .44 and Dragoon Revisions

The Walker would be awful big for a daily carry piece of course, but if you want a hand cannon for some fun at the range then you need a Walker Repro.

    Small game with smoothbore pistol?

It'll likely increase the challenge if that is what your looking for. A paper shot cup should tighten up your pattern. I agree that the rabbits sitting tight would be the best bet.

    roger and spencer

It took me a while to appreciate the quality of the Euroarms R&S replicas since mine was the 2nd cap and ball revolver I ever shot. The only thing I had to compare it to at the time was a brass frame colt replica. There seems to be plenty of demand whenever one of the R&S becomes available.
