    Lead casting questions

I don't have any problems with a cold chisel and hammer breaking my ingots into small pieces for melting.

    No RB's!

If you've got a little porch or balcony, you'd be set. Either get one of the Lee melters, or get a Coleman stove and cast iron post, and you'd be set. I have just a small, 4lbs Lee melter that works great. Set up on a small table on my back porch, cast 100 RB's in no time.

    No RB's!

I agree. I made 100 good RB in roughly an hour (didn't really look at the time, just guessing) Some were bad and had to be remelted, so total I made about 130-ish? It's something else to do when I'm not shooting, and a little feeling of accomplishment knowing you're shooting your own. Trying...

    Storage of Blackpowder

I have "my" room that I can do whatever I want (if the wife approves of it). I took out the hanger rods in the closet, and put in shelves. My gun stuff stacks up real nice on the shelves. I've got 8lbs of powder, little over 1000 caps, round balls, casting equipment, all set nicely on the...

    New To Casting

Didn't even think about that. Used sand traps as clearing barrels in Iraq, yet somehow didn't think about it. As far as wet ashes, fires here in the desert aren't the best idea. But I'll try out the sand and see how it goes!

    New To Casting

My next step is to try to figure out a portable lead catcher to take with me when I go shooting so I can recycle my lead

    New To Casting

No, just a dry towel to keep them from rolling off my loading table.

    New To Casting

After doing a lot of research on here and other places, I placed my order on Thursday for my casting materials and lead. Yesterday, they arrived. Quick delivery!!! I was so excited, I got off work at 2am last night, and I was up at 8 this morning. After my bacon and eggs breakfast, I broke...

Do I Want A Brass Frame?

I love LOVE short barrel revolvers. I'm leaning towards a steel frame, short barrel. but who knows what I will get. Hopefully I will get my casting supplies first. But sometimes it's hard to turn down another gun.....

Do I Want A Brass Frame?

I tried to do some searching on a "creeping loading lever", but just see that the "newer" model colts had them. Can you expand on that? Is it a perk, or just a change in style? I guess there are two questions then... Do I like the looks of the brass, and do I want a gun NOW, or save up a few...

Do I Want A Brass Frame?

Hello all. I've recently got my Remington New Army with 5.5" barrel, and now (of course), I"m getting the itch for a Colt Model. I really like shorter barrel revolvers, although not sure if they're consistant with the time period, I just like the looks of them and how theyhandle. That being...

O.K. Where are all the #10 Caps

I just got back from Cabelas here in the valley and they had probably 7 racks of Remington #10's. I picked up another tin, so I have probably about 800 in my safe. Doesn't seem to be a problem here, just need to get my casting stuff and order some lead and find some beeswax for my wads.

Y'all are just a bad influence...

I was looking at this gun as well. I just got a Remington and love it. Looking for my next revolver already, and almost bit on this one, but think I'm going to throw my money towards supplies to cast my own round balls first. Good looking gun. I think you're going to have a LOT of fun

    First BP Outing

And I did take some advice and picked up a loading stand from Cabelas. I know the Traditions brand isn't the most favored as some others, but I'm going to try it out. If it's no good, i'll take it back and shell out some for the more expensive ones online. But this one was in stock and on hand...
