Looking for Precussion Lock CVA Hawken ?

I contacted CVA directly, and they don't do much for replacment parts for cap/ball rifles anymore. You would think that they would keep replacment parts in stock for them.

Looking for Precussion Lock CVA Hawken ?

I have been piecing a CVA Hawken rifle together for the past few months. I am looking for a 5" Precussion lock for a double set trigger. I see alot of 4 3/8", and not alot of five inch. Does anyone have a clue as to where to get one ? Any help would be greatly accepted.

Sop is that standard operating practice ? I am new to the Black powder world only been doing it for 6-7 months now. My buddy I shoot with got a conversion nipple for CVA's that will take musket caps they seem too work better than #11's

snapping caps before fireing clean barrel.

I went shooting today with my CVA Frontier .50 Cal. I've been hearing about guys snaping a few caps before shooting to clear the barrel of oil. I tryed this method today with my 4 wing musket caps, and it worked like a charm. No hang fire from residual cleaning oil in the side drum. Worked like...

    Use some more common sense

I happen to be a smoker and when me and my buddy shoot I am no were near our loading area when i smoke. If 70-90 grains of powder make a smokepole rumble I don't want to see what a 1 lb. can of fffg will do. :nono:

Modern Firearm VS. Muzzleloader Hunting For Mule Deer.

I mainly hunted around the tonasket area, tunk mt, pontiac ridge, bonaparte, loomis, etc. One of the larges herds of mule deer migrate out of canada threw the upper Okanogan County area. As a matter of fact they laid the highway between Omak and Tonasket right over their main migration route.

    Best anti-rust for after cleaning

Hey guys i'm new to this muzzleloader thing have a few questions on correct cleaning methods. I have been using Barrel Blaster to pre-clean, and the hot soap/water. I have been using wd40 to lube the barrel after cleaning to keep rust down. Is there a better or more proper method for anti-rust ?

200 yd. group with the Gibbs

why do you shoot 2f? I get more bang for my buck shooting 80-90 grains of fffG. It seems to be more reactive, and produces more charge than 2f

Modern Firearm VS. Muzzleloader Hunting For Mule Deer.

I have gotten pretty good at sneaking up on mule deer. I spotted my last one at 200+ yrds and made my kill shot at 75+ yrds with modern arms.

Modern Firearm VS. Muzzleloader Hunting For Mule Deer.

It's just too easy with my .270 and a Barska 50X24 scope. It's like shooting deer with a sniper rifle not a whole lot of skill involved. It does take years of shooting modern to get as accurate as I have got, but any fool can kill a deer with a modern rifle w/scope at short range.

Modern Firearm VS. Muzzleloader Hunting For Mule Deer.

That's how i figured it modern is too easy to take down an animal. I have stalking skills and i'm going to try to use them with my b/p rifle
