Chamber/Bore Size on Pietta 1860 "Snubbie"

I was browsing thru a Dixie Gunworks catalog, and they show and describe an 1860 "snubbie", a gun I guess, that never really existed, or perhaps only as a one-off field modification. Anyway, the appropriate ball diameter is listed at .451. I've owned more than one Pietta, and they ALL seemed to...

What's going on with Dixie Gunworks

I too just ordered a firearm from Dixie - even if I takes a while, I’m good with that. Over these many years, never had a real problem with them, and returns seem to be handled promptly, and without hassle.

    shipping problem UPS

They hassled me when I shipped a barrel. I had to try again during the next shift, and simply lie. I did not like doing so, but what alternatives do such companies and our government give us? Nada.

    Indian Made Muskets ?

I actually did go to Alex's site. The gentleman is obviously a true craftsman, and is probably the polar opposite of an Indian made flintlock, certainly in quality and most likely in pricing too.

    Indian Made Muskets ?

I'm kinda late coming into the game. I was recently offered a trade involving a replica French musket, but backed off because it was Indian made. My only experience with Indian made goods is with their Bess and CW bayonets, and I have seen some real manure (both in the quality of the steel and...

The brass framed revolvers lifespan and help me decide on a new purchase.

Though I am very late to the party, let me throw in my 2 cents. Although I really like the “hang” of an 1851 Colt, and I am always awed by the grace of a 1860, after many years and many revolvers, I ultimately end up with a 1858 Remington. Lord only knows it is exponentially easier to clean...

    Dragoon vs 1860 Army?

What a great discussion. I've owned many, if not all these over the last 50 years. I was lucky enough to have gone to High School with the warehouse manager for Navy Arms. He often let me run amok when the "coast was clear". The difference in quality between the Uberti and the Pietta have...

    Drums Along the Mohawk

I agree with all the great comments. I was fortunate enough to actually be shown DAM in High School history class (thank you Mr.Marcy ! ), back in 1964. It inspired a life-long fascination with the French and Indian War.

SOLD English Made Early 2 band Parker-Hale Model 1858 Rifle

Arguably, the Holy Grail of Civil War reproduction rifled muskets This is a early production model ( SN under 1500 ). It is in excellent condition, in and out. Not flawless, but close. Bore is in mirror like condition. These are generally considered excellent shooters, because of the rapid...

"Right" load for a Uberti Walker

That tack would require logic and reflection, of which I am in short supply - but I appreciate the suggestion !

"Right" load for a Uberti Walker

I have been shooting mild (for a Walker at least) 24gr. FFG loads with wonderwads, under .454 balls. It's very accurate and a hoot to shoot. Reading other comments though, seems to indicate I can double that powder loading if I wish, w/o any concerns. Is that correct ?

    Pat1842 Smoothbore Musket

I have the American version on the way to me as I write this. Used a similar Armi-Sport repro .69 Model 1842 Musket when I re-enacted years ago. When I start firing her up (with "live" rounds this time), I'll be glad to post my results. All the suggestions have been helpful in planning.

Repro Colt Baby Dragoon for a Newbie

Thanks for the advice. I must explain that the caps were from 1966, "foil-lined", and worked flawlessly. Ah, the luck of the ignorant.

Repro Colt Baby Dragoon for a Newbie

Really, really new to this hobby. I recently picked a Baby Dragoon up from another board member, it was naked, w/o a box or "papers". Regardless, I couldn't wait to fire it, and ran out and discharged a cylinder of balls w/o any hiccups (reading some of the 1849 Pocket Pistol woes posted...
