    GPR and twist

How does the 1:48 twist stand up to conicals and balls? I'm sort of torn between the GPR and Trade Rifle. I'm doing research on balls now as when I move, would like to stick with one projectile if possible...but I am not familiar with what balls can do impact wise.

    GPR and twist

Stupid me...I'll definately be getting a .54. Most of my shots for deer will be less than 70 yards as I'm very good at getting close. However, I'll be moving out west later this year and the 70 yarder may increase. Balls I know can take larger than deer sized animals...what about ball-ets or are...

    GPR and twist

Slowly I am learning about twist and round balls in the Lymans. I am wondering though if it's possible to shoot No Excuses, Horn Great Plains out of a 1:60 twist??? Mind you I do not have any muzzleloader at the moment, but have had my eye on the traditional types of muzzleloaders for about a...

    Stock on Lyman Trade Rifle

Thank you for the quick replies. Sounds like I made a good selection in a front loader. A buddy of mine has the GPR but he changed the stock to a full straight one (custom made) and stated that the original stock cut into this shoulder a bit too much for his likes. I had checked out the site...

    Stock on Lyman Trade Rifle

Greetings, I have a few questions concerning the stock on this particular rifle. 1.) is the stock that of a half stock? 2.) what is the history of the shape of this stock and 3.) which is a weird question, but does the stock interfer with how you shoulder it? I am relatively new to this...

Lyman Deerstalker or Cabela's Sporterzed Hawken?

Reason I asked about the barrel wedge key is because my fiancee's flintlock comes loose after about 11 shots. Her father made this rifle, but after he passed on, she started using it. Thus she is not as experienced as she would like to be and we both are a wee bit unknowledgable with these firearms.

Lyman Deerstalker or Cabela's Sporterzed Hawken?

Well sumtacks, I wont be a knockin ya. I appreciate everyones input on my selectionBut I think I will lean toward the Deerstalker. From what I have been reading in the forums, it's a sound firearm that is both accurate and very reliable. Plus it's the right size for a brush gun which is needed...

Lyman Deerstalker or Cabela's Sporterzed Hawken?

Greetings, I'm new to the forums and to muzzleloading. Currently I'm in the stage of deciding on which .54 to purchase...lyman deerstalker or the Cabela's Sporterized Hawken. .54 because I'll be hunting in Alaska with a friend and need that extra punch. I recently shouldered the GPR and Trade...

    Greetings from Wisconsin

Well Breakfast Boy and gordy, I checked out the double triggers today at the local Gander Mountain. I shouldered the Trade rifle and the GPR both flintlocks...I found both to be very barrel heavy and a bit too long for any treestand and heavy cover hunting (shooting max of about 65 or so yards)...

    Greetings from Wisconsin

Thanks for straighting that out gordy. I am definately safer with a single trigger. Having said that, I am strongly considering the Trade Rifle, though not to sure about that brass. But then there is that little deerstalker...choices, choices, choices :hmm:...LOL Good thing I'm not buying till...

    Greetings from Wisconsin

I'm happy to be here. I checked out all the links and bookmarked them for future reference. Thank you all for posting them for me. I don't dare get a flintlock. My fiancee has one and she specifically stated or I should say WARNED..."Don't you dare get a flint"...guess she is afraid I might out...

    Greetings from Wisconsin

Thanks for the welcome. Cabela's is the only catalog I get so I am limited in resources. From what I have learned of Lymans my interest lies with the Trade Rifle at the moment. I haven't seen many comments on that particular rifle. The Great Plains is very nice, but I doubt it would work in a...

    Greetings from Wisconsin

Hello everyone, I'm BuckBall from Central Wisconsin and very new to muzzleloading. Give credit to my fiancee for getting my interest started. Currently I'm in the stage of deciding on which .54 to purchase...lyman or go with Cabela's Hawken. .54 because I hunt in Alaska with a friend and need...
