Okay, this place looks like it's somewhere between incredible and amazing.

They hosted a War of 1812 reenactment the weekend before. Don't go late in the day. We got thrown out of the place at 4:40 PM even though signs say 9 - 5 PM. Locked the gift shop up even before then.
The Canadian side has Ft. Edward too, as well as barracks built by Butler's Rangers.

They also do a F&I event in early July. Fired off some of the canons, had French uniformed guys inside the fort actually giving their orders in French. Lots of history there. The fort on the Canadian side is Fort George, a hastily built response to the declaration of war in 1812. One can barely see the British flag across and up river. The range capability of those old canon is amazing.

Thank you, you are correct on Fort George, a wooden stockade, looks like something you'd buy at Home Depot.
Wanted to see the barracks built by Butler but didn't have the time.
