Got some balls from Frank so we geared up and headed to the cabin to shoot. Used a denium patched ball over 70 grains of FFF.
target was a 20 yards, twelve shots covering about an eight inch group. Not bad seeing my serpentine wasn`t working right so it was hard to hold and get a shot off. Very pleased all and all.

Looks like pretty decent accuracy. :applause: Are you burning all of the 70 grain charge in that short barrel? :hmm:

Pitchy, that is good accuracy for a short barreled smoothbore without a front or rear sight. Looks like center of mass every time. I reckon that working on the serpentine and adding some sights would cut your group in half.

I never use them, but some shooters find that shotgun wads will tighten a group up as well. Try some bore sized overpowder cards cut out of the cardboard on the front or back of an old three ring binder. Put that over the powder and then run your patched ball down.

I forgot to take special notice but I didn`t see any under the window. Have to watch closer next time. I think it will shoot a lot more accurate, i was having a hard time lining up the sights and getting the serpenting working. The lever was to long for shooting sitting down, i now have shortened it and it will shoot better next time. I also cut 1 1/2 inch off the stock as it was to long.

It has sights on it, see post above for other details.
Thanks guys, it was fun.

Not today, shot three after I got the gun built. Forgot all about them today, had four in the bag.
I`ll try them next time.

:v Nice goin' my friend, I couldn't complain about that accuracy, the first time I shot my first gonne I couldn't hit paper. Of course it isn't an ideal stock (hoe handle)and no cheek piece to rest my head---but after some fooling about ( 1/2# ffg later)I got the idea down pat. I have a nice arquebus I haven't shot as of yet (2 years since John Buck made it for me )---now I have the urge to give it a day in court---I'll use patched .61 ball with ~ 55gr of ffg for starters---this barrel is a hunk of steel and I feel a wee bit more powder will probably be needed. I will however wait for the temperature to get above 18 degrees.Momma didn't raise no jackasses only donkeys. :rotf: :hatsoff: "Doc"

Thanks pal, be sure to give us a report on how that gun shoots.
Got ya beat on the temp. though -35 this morn here. :shake:

Nice shooting Lenn. Looks like your cabin must be heated if you are shooting in your T-shirt. What's all that funny white stuff? Looks just like my back yard!

Sugar, sweet land around here :haha: yep we insulated the cabin too good it was over 80 in there. Have to get a smaller stove or bigger window.
Thanks :)

For shame! :nono:

A nice looking Arquebus NEEDS to be shot!
