Hmmm...That thought kinda sucks!
I think rat farming might be a way to add to the menu.
Think about it-they breed like crazy, can survive on almost any kind of organic material, would be easy to skin and field dress, and can be confined and raised in low-cost enclosures that are easy to build.

Ya, but I think that was the point , average unprepared people caught off guard and trying last as long as they can with little resources. Even the most prepared person with skills and resources can catch a bullet to the head on day one by a nitwit with a revolver and one bullet.
