Not real bad when you consider the source, John Ford was a movie maker not a historian. I don't think it was terribly historically accurate but it was entertaining. Beats alot of that "stuff" Hollywood is churning out now.

While the film does take liberties with history it is based on actual events in the area at the time and far closer than most of Ford's oaters. It was well received and has a very good cast with Henry Fonda, as always, giving a great performance. I've watched it several times and enjoyed it every time, one of those excellent movies that came out in the years just before WW2.

Like most of the movies made about this era, it is not very historically correct. I really don't mind that. Lots of guys nit pick the heck out of these movies. I watch and enjoy them for what they are, entertainment about a place in time that I enjoy. If wearing the wrong hat, or if a flintlock fires with the frizzen open and the hammer not moving bothers you, you probably should not watch one of these movies. Me, I overlook it because there are sooooo few made concerning this time frame.

I’ve noticed I can forgive a plethora of inaccuracies in a movie I like, but have one wrong button in a movie I don’t like the whole thing is an abomination!!!!!
