There is a picture of what appears to be a cannon made from water pipe in the magazine and the caption indicates the owner fires it ever year at the fourth of July. The very sort of thing, hobby and model artillerists do not need, is a picture of a wheeled pipe bomb with a caption describing how it is fired for annual salutes.

I hear you. Thought that was pretty bizarre, too.

Are you sure it is not black pipe or milled pipe? If it is just a signal cannon with no ammo there should not be a problem, slide shotguns using smokeless powder cartridges are made from water pipe. It all comes down to sensibility when using any gun, any overcharged gun can explode.
