Ive been looking at buying a .32 for several months now..I have noticed that I can pick up a nearly new and sometimes unfired T/C Cherokee for about $475 from some of the auction sites..A Traditions Crockett .32 is about the same price new..I like shopping locally but pretty much every gunstore with 100 miles has stopped carrying or even trading for traditional muzzleloaders so my options are limited..I have plenty of exp with T/C products but none with Traditions..Would you buy a Crockett or a Cherokee for practically the same price?

I have a Traditions Crockett .32, and I like it just fine. With 15 to 20 grains of FFF, it makes less noise than a .22, with no felt recoil. It is very accurate. At 25 yards, it will shoot a cloverleaf, from the bench. It will slap knock a squirrel off of a limb. I have never shot a Cherokee, but they appear to be well made, and I don't think you would go wrong with either choice...Robin

Having owned a Crockett and shot the heck out of it, I can say it's a whole lot of fun. But in my 1st hand experience the lock is problematic and prone to serious problems after a couple of years of steady use. The bigger problem comes in trying to deal with Traditions on replacements. Not happening!

The Cherokee on the other hand, is notably solid and reliable even in heavy use.

Priced the same? Get the Cherokee.

Crockett $200 less? Get the Cherokee.

Plan to shoot a bunch? Get the Cherokee.

Go straight up the "forum Index" page to the "classified ads-auctions" section and to page 2 of "firearms for sale of trade"...pretty nice looking little .32 Cherokee for $250, and that's a good price!

Won lots of squail gun shoots with my crockett. Very happy with it. Only thing I did with it is put a buck horn sight on it.

I have a Cherokee, that I use 15 grains of Black MZ powder in, and it shoots like a 22 at 25 yards. It's a fun little rifle. I traded a 50 cal. TC Hawken, and $75. to get it. I had a $100. in the Hawken, so for $175., I'm a happy camper.

I have the Crockett and couldn't be more satisfied. I've owned and shot it for more than 12 years. Yep, the little T/C is a bit nicer rifle but the Crockett ain't bad.

Wes/Tex; that ones sold pending funds or it would be mine by now. . Keep looking on the classifieds here though as they do come up every so often and the members here sell good stuff at good prices.

I have one of the 32 Cherokees. Mine shoots best with the 32 cal maxi-ball. I have an old TC mold for this that I bought 20 years ago. I doubt you could find one anymore.

My wifes papaw has .32 rifles and actually has one of those T/C mini molds. Though there is one on an auction site right now for $139 if your looking for an extra LOLOLOL..I think Ill buy one of the lee maxi molds from TOTW for much, much less.

Sorry. Have to keep your eyes open. Many of the forums dedicated to muzzleloading have 'classified', 'round robin' or similar description for their buy/sell members. Just keep looking at www.gunsamerica, www.gunbroker, www.gunsinternational, etc. they all have used muzzleloaders listed sometime or all the time. You just have to be diligent and ready to jump when you see it.

No, that's fine I do appreciate the heads up. I was getting ready to jump all over it but it was already sold..Ill get one..

WOW! I guess I got a real collectors item. LOL! It even has the TC mold handles too. It is a really neat looking little bullet.

Another vote for the t/c here. I like the Cherokees over the Senecas. Just a personal preference since I don't like the shiny brass. I see the crickets from time to time for 300 used on those auction sites. IMHO it would be better to pay the same price for a tc as a new Crockett. If you ever go to sell you can get your money back or maybe more if you keep it long enough. With the Crockett they tend to go down in value from what I see.

Another option could be the cva squirrel 32. I've seen them go for under 200. They are real accurate' just not as fancy. I'd recommend looking for a double trigger one if you went that rout just to have the lighter trigger pull. Also Dixie gun works, pedersoli and navy arms made some good squirrel rifles.

What shiny brass ? .

The Cherokee has brass, too - just not as much as the Seneca.

All it needs is a little natural patina from aging. .
