    Determining Thread

Two thoughts. One, to get the thread size of a hole, take a dowel rod a little larger than the hole and thread it down in there, then back out. It will leave you with enough of a wooden 'screw' to measure. Two, you might be tempted to just order a 1/4x20 nipple, and get a tap from the...

    Nontoxic shot choices

My GGDad was a market hunter, and my 'hunting upbringing' shows it. A decoy carver, I've all but quit duck hunting because I never learned to do it in a legal way, and had difficulty learning to appreciate a "good hunt" that didn't include too many birds coming home. The corn is still thick on...

    boats

I've built a 6-hour canoe and a plywood johnboat. Both were fun to build. I've used the canoe(actually a bateau) for beer-clamming and sight seeing, longest trip about 8 miles. She is tippy, but fast and handles like a dream unless it gets real windy or choppy. Then she's a coffin...

    Mustard-tiquing

Boy that knife looks familiar! I've got one just like it, with a real nice leather sheath! I love the finish, tell Mrs. Tootie I said thanks!  Mitch

    Nontoxic shot choices

I've been wanting to duck hunt with my ML: CVA 12 gauge double barrel. But the manual explicitly says NO STEEL SHOT. Any suggestions? I didn't know bismuth was even still in the picture. Also, anybody have trouble with Wildlife Officials wanting to give a lead shot ticket while hunting with...

How About 13' Punt Gun And 1600 Grains

This is the last page in the series. http://www.fieldandstream.com/fieldstream/photogallery/article/0,13355,1589309_7,00.html My GGFather was a market hunter(born 1902). He taught my Granddad, who in turn taught Dad and myself(We still have his 1897 pump and Browning Automatic, as well as a...

    Knife handles.

Type in George Washington Sears or Nesmuk in google. He lived in the woods, probably passed away in 1890. He hunted, fished, camped, and never really did much else, including hold a job(except as a guide or writer). A woods bum. Not knocking him, just my understanding of him. First class...

.50 Cal 470 gr. Maxi-Balls vs. Evil Watermelon

Be sure and take your camera! But seems like a feller once said never trust someone with a .50 and a watermelon, or something of that sort...

.50 Cal 470 gr. Maxi-Balls vs. Evil Watermelon

Did it cause any maxi balls(or buck shot) to head out in yore general di-rection? :)

    Apprentice to Journeyman Question

That's what made us great, no one stood around telling those boys they couldn't be gun makers because they didn't have formal training. Sometimes I think we're over-regulated. :shake: Ever wonder how much flight training the Wright Brothers had?

    Knife handles.

It says "Nesmuk" to me, but that's just one opinion. (Nesmuk is a small/medium skinner named after a woods rambler from the Northwoods).

What has happened to Fox Ridge?

Nosir, you said nothing out of line, I was just defending my dislike of S&W. Hope I've caused no offense. :) There are some serious S&W fans, and to each their own, make mine a Kimber, Ruger, or other. :hatsoff: I do wish T/C and Fox Ridge were still there own entities, and not under a...

    #11 vs #10 caps?

10-4. I've got a small sack full of nipples, so I may just size one or two down, as long as the caps have enough spark to ignite a charge.

What has happened to Fox Ridge?

We know what opinions are like, but I personally have a deep dislike of anything S&W(not too fond of Colt either). I won't even buy a S&W pocket knife. I personally feel that in 10 years they will run T/C in the ground. But again, those are just my opinions, and you have the right to...

    #11 vs #10 caps?

I accidnetally wound up with 1,000 #10 caps. If I size a nipple down(chuck in a drill press, threads up, apply file to side, checking often) will they work for plinking loads in my .50 Hawken? Say, 50 grs 3f Goex/PRB?
