Upcoming northern New England muzzleloading events

Just to let folks know the Cheshire County Primitive Biathlon is Sunday the 4th of March only. We're having a cowboy long range shoot on Saturday the 3rd, so you may feel a bit out of place to show up with a muzzleloader!

    .32 cva squirel rifle

I have to brag, I stopped by the local gunstore tonite and he had this cute little .32 on the shelf. Set triggers, adjustable sights and a nice browned barrel, The wood is kinda plain, but the price more than made up for it: $175! A quick search on gunbroker shows 3 guns for sale in that...

    .495 in a .54...Yes, I did

I'm a fan of the small ball/thick patch also, I use a .56 smoothbore and shoot a .530 ball with a wad and pillow ticking. Loads easy, thumb start, and shoots great (if I do my part). I was at Dalton also, and hit one gong at each target station, and with the same point of aim!

    28 gauge double shot load

    this may help: http://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/195339/

    28 gauge double shot load

Well that is basically a .56 caliber, and the standard size ball for that in a rifle would weigh 265 grains. that is approximately about .6 of an ounce, or a little bit less than 5/8 oz. Thompson center loading data for the .56 smoothbore rifle states 7/8 oz. is max for that gun, and their...

    Bending a TC Percussion hammer

I have found that shimming the hammer out from the lockplate with a thin washer around the tumbler was all that was needed to eliminate the problem without heating and bending, but only if the hammer was dragging the outside of the nipple. If it hits the inside, maybe inletting the lock deeper...

    Type "F" Auto Tranny Fluid

I've always preferred DextronIII for a gun oil, but what do I know? I'm a yankee that loves grits!

    62 fowler

My best luck with PRB in a smoothbore has always been with a wad under it, no mater what gun I used. currently I make .56 wads out of wet toilet paper in my loading block, let them dry a few days & poke them out. reduces my group size dramatically!

    VT. Primitive Biathlon Dates

you can go to ccfandg.org for more info and directions, but the rules will be basically the same as Smugg's, and the range is located at 19 ferry brook road, Keene, NH. Hope to see you there Nit Wit!

    ?value of a t/c renegade 56 sb

They are very good, underrated guns - I have one I paid less than $200 because the muzzle was pitted. It shoots better than I can hold it, using .530 ball and pillow ticking patches over wasp's nest or other wads. If I found another one in better shape, I's be willing to part with at least...

TC 56 cal smooth bore loads

I make my own cushion wads from toilet paper, I jam wet TP in my loading block and let them dry. Pop them out the next day and put them in my shooting bag, they work great to tighten up the groups with PRB. But I have never tried them with shot.

LH Fusil de Chasse, Tulle progress

She's really looking good there. I wish I had your eye, and attention to detail. You make my work look like amateur scratching! I just wish you were up here at Smugg's to shoot it with us!

    12 ga Roundball load ?

I agree with Britsmoothy, and use the K.I.S.S.(keep it simple, stupid) method. Both of my 12's shoot fine with a handcast .700 ball patched with pillow ticking, loaded over an overpowder card.
