    checkering tools

If you have never done any checkering get a video on how to do it. Brownells used to sell a good one but I don't see it on their website. They've gone over to the plastic blasters since that's where the money is these days. This is the type of tool to use. Its adjustable cutter head is a real...

    Last of the Mohicans Rifle

This is some bad news Oldwood. I hope you can get caught up on your projects and post some photos of you and your healthy wife holding your guns and smiling. Best of luck to you both. Crisco

ADDING SOLDER TO LEAD FOR ROUND BALL CASTING

You can use the 50/50 solder in amounts that will result in a 30 or 40 tin to lead ratio with no noticeable effect on your round balls other than they will cast a little smoother and look a little shinier. Adding some 95/5 solder can make them a little harder. I haven't tried it so I can't speak...

    Light hunting rifle, straight stock?

The early Lancaster. I think the later version was too thin in the wood at the breach for the barrel which is 1.075". I should add that Pecatonica did a fine job on the barrel inlet and the ramrod hole but I didn't want them to go any farther.

    Light hunting rifle, straight stock?

This is a .58 smooth rifle I built using a early Lancaster stock from Pecatonica and a Colerain 36" tapered octagon to round barrel. It weighs 7 lbs. 3 oz. Pecatonica inlet the barrel and drilled the ramrod channel. I used a large Siler lock and a wide Fowler butt plate and I did all the...

    K. R. Bresien action

I had a chance to buy 2 beautiful slug guns built by Bresien owned by a lady who with her husband shot with him at Friendship. I was moving and so was she so I passed up on the deal even though it was pennies on the dollar. I tried to sell them for her through my friends in Arizona but there...

    .45 Round Ball Water Test

I've had the same experience on deer with a 54. The balls were flattened out under the skin on the off side. The 2 or 3 I remember anyway. Soft round balls kill way out of proportion to their weight.

    Gun safety

The rule I've heard is to always uncap the loaded barrel when loading the one just fired. I may be wrong but I think the front trigger is always the right barrel. At least it is on modern side by sides.

    Mail broken parts by UPS

I have had them ask. I had to send a "lamp kit" once. It was a piece of wood with a pipe to run the cord through.

    Franklin, France, The War

You guys watch it if you want but I won't spend a nickel or a second of my time to watch some anti gun Hollywood puke like Michael Douglas portray one of America's greatest men.

Problem with ignition on my new Hawken

Some pictures of your new rifle would be nice. Like Nitwit says, lots of spit is good. At matches anyway it's all I use. You should be able to get off a lot of shots with it. I use a damp patch, not wet, between relays to swab the bore since at 10 or 15% humidity the fouling gets hard fast.
