An Abomination? Not For Sensitive Viewers

I am all for it. Several years ago I was at a sportsman/coon hunters outdoor swap. On this guys table laid a camo muzzle loading double barrel he had doctored up for turkey hunting. After I got her home and started peeling camo tape and applying oil and 0000 steel wool to some light surface...

    TC New Englander

Picked up a let's say neglected New Englander .50 cal. the other day. After a little 0000 steel wool she cleaned much better than I could have hoped. I don't currently have any 50 cal. ball. What has been you guys experience with these guns, they like a .490 ball, .495 ?

    SturdyTradition pocket knife

I've carried the same Case stockman pocket knife daily since 1985. She did spend a night on a log in the woods after cleaning a rabbit once. I have found a couple knives over the years, one along a shoreline fishing, another next to our mail box that apparently fell off a truck going by. But...

Thinking of taking a walk on the dark side.

No I have not. Not allowed at local shoots either. Had the makins for the other laying around, thought I might try it. Does not look as totally hideous as I feared. But then I might not have the delicate sensibilities that I seem to have offended here. Good suggestion though, may have to give...

Thinking of taking a walk on the dark side.

Been thinking about it a couple years as I get older. Could switch over to shotgun full time I guess. But yeah it's an eye thing.

Thinking of taking a walk on the dark side.

Well apparently that is not how you post pictures here. Having never had scoped a muzzle loader before. How does one go about cleaning ? The traditional drop the breech in hot soapy water method is somewhat more complicated with the scope on her now ?

Thinking of taking a walk on the dark side.

Been giving thought to possibly scoping a rifle for a while. This past weekend I was at a local flea market and spied a very clean looking small bore on a table. It was a Traditions Deerhunter .32 with scope mounts and sling swivels already on it. The bore sparkled when I dropped a bobber light...

    Pre-wash flannel for cleaning patches?

One batch of home cut flannel cleaning patches I failed to wash first, noticed the cleaning fluid tended to roll off the patch some.

Any book suggestions for 12 year old Nephew ?

Just wanted to thank everybody for the suggestions. Decided to go with Hatchet, and My Side Of The Mountain. If he takes to them, will steer him toward a more historical direction next go round. Thanks again.

Any book suggestions for 12 year old Nephew ?

Thinking of maybe getting my sister's boy a book. He is about 12, is interested in shooting, camping, and such. I figure he is about prime to give him a little nudge in the right direction. He lives near Charleston S.C., and me up in Ohio, I don't get to see him but maybe once a year. I know...

    Garage Sale Score

Barrels cleaned up pretty nice. The .50 TC barrel was on the rifle when I bought it, but all the ball, brushes, and such, are all .40. Put the .40 on, little longer and heavier than the .50. Guy had a stanless rod under the .50, balanced out about the same.

    Garage Sale Score

Got a heads up from a buddy(smokeless shooter) about a local garage sale with a Thompson Center rifle and fixens. Went on over for a look, sure enough a 50 cal. TC Hawken, with an additional 40 cal. green mountain barrel, for $250. Said he also had a bunch of lead and powder and stuff that...
