    1853 Enfield two flash holes

Update: Hello all, I didn’t forget you! I sent the barrel to Traditions to look at the irregular flash holes ,mid February, and this morning I received an email from them: “Our gunsmiths inspected your barrel and sent pictures of the affected area to our engineering department. They have...

    My New Mortar

I made one over Covid lockdown. Started with 3” bar stock of 4140. Crude copy of Coehorn mortor. Shoots golf balls from 50 to approximately 500 yds depending on the powder charge. Wadding makes a big difference in golf ball distance.

Peep sight for Hawken Mountain rifle

Hi all! Thanks for all the great suggestions. Necchi: You are correct the rifle is not a Traditions Hawken Mountain Rifle kit but rather a Traditions Mountain Rifle kit. Looks like I combined the St Louis Hawken kit and the Mountain Rifle kit to come up with a non existing hybrid kit. Thanks...

Peep sight for Hawken Mountain rifle

To Phil, thanks really opens up the options. To 64Springer, as you probably know, in this kit the tang is separate from the barrel/breech plug. There is a male attachment on the breech plug that mechanically locks into the barrel tang. The barrel can be removed from the stock without removing...

Peep sight for Hawken Mountain rifle

I just received a Traditions Hawken .50 Mountain rifle kit. I can’t clearly see the rear leaf sight on any rifle so a peep sight is my only choice. I’ve searched the threads on this and other sites and have come up with 3 choices: Lyman 57 SML, Williams Hawken FS, and Dixie Gun Works EPO 711...

    1853 Enfield two flash holes

Not only that 64Springer, I glass bedded the stock/ barrel. I didn't want to take out the plug and find all I accomplished was voiding the warranty. I'm not asking Tradition for a new barrel, only their plan to address what l'm seeing. If Tradition says all OK as is, I can live with that. Best...

    1853 Enfield two flash holes

Thanks for the replies. I sent the pictures to Traditions and they want me to send them the barrel. It didn’t take any convincing. A wire can be placed in each of the two holes at the same time without interfering with each other. There is definitely a metal wall separating the two holes as both...

    1853 Enfield two flash holes

Hi all, I have an interesting problem. I assembled a Traditions 1853 Enfield at the beginning of 2021. The side lock nipple hole had the expected flash hole and in addition a small porosity at the bottom of the threaded area a mm behind the flash hole. It was small and viewed it as a superficial...
