Can powder brand be responsible for this much difference?

You'll be there in spirit, though. One hopes...

    ROA and Mag Spark

When I bought some a few weeks ago, they were limiting sales to 3 tins per customer.

    Lubing conicals

Thanks - as I generally cast my own bullets and balls, I generally have plenty of Alox handy. Will probably stay with the beeswax/lard combo. Plenty of sheep and bear lard available.

Thanks, guys - glad to hear the procedure is still good.

    Lubing conicals

In 1960, shooting Minie' balls with my 1861 Springfield, we would lube them with a mix of, I think, beeswax and lard, ensuring that the rings were full. Now that I have several firearms capable of firing conicals, do I lube them about the same? Thanks for responses. CC

I need help with my black powder rifle

Bruh, you came to the right place, as there are some really good people on this forum that are experts in teaching all the little nuances of black powder magic, and will help you to learn and polish your new skills. But as Florida conch said, you've got to provide all possible information of...

When did deep frying come along?

Bill, what did you use for the "sack"? I have no idea what that even is! The rest of it, and your statement, indicate it is indeed very tasty. I am good for tasting/eating almost anything that has no danged bell peppers or an abundance of garlic. My very own mother made me sit at the table...

    Sharpe's Rifles

Been watching replays of the "Sharpe" series from 1990. For about the fourth or fifth time... Other than the "Volley Gun" carried by Sgt. Hogan, What are the rifles carried by the other soldiers? They are flintlocks, to be sure, but rather shorter barreled than the norm for the 1810-12...

    Back Action Lock

Attempting to restore a rifle built by Isaac Hall in 1840. Much work to do, including finding a mainspring for the back action lock. Any ideas? Or anyone willing to make one for me? I've found a trigger guard very close to the original; most other parts are reuseable. Will have to make a new...
