    Boys it's cold........

Boys it's cold and the ground is covered with snow here in Western Ky. Am going to be heading down to Livingston county in just a little bit to try and get an antlerless deer to convert in to jerky sticks this weekend. Anybody else going to brave the cold this weekend?

    Stock Finish

I considered asking this same question a few days ago; did a search and didn't come up with much. I tried Permalyn last year; seemed to dry before it could be rubbed in well and way too shiney. Tried Tru-oil, doesn't rub in well and too much shine also. Have tried rubbing down with rotten...

    New Rifle

Thanks for the compliments fellows. This one was kind of a rush job, so I could have it ready for deer season. This is the fourth one I've built; sure got it done a lot faster than the first one I ever tackled. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, however. I used Laurel Mountain Forge...

    A Real Capper

I bought this capper from a fellow who just happened to be in a local sporting goods store back in the 70's. I think he was from Mt.Vernon Illinois. I think he said it came from the Hawken Shop. It's got Hawken, a star, and St.louis stamped on it. Anyway, it's a good one, not like the little...

    New Rifle

I've had the parts for this one laying around for about a year. Decided Sept. 25th to start working on it. Wanted to get it done so I could use it during Ky's early muzzleloader deer season Oct. 15th. Working nights and weekends on it, had it ready to shoot Oct. 10th. Nothing fancy, all...

    my siler lock from chambers............

I used the same lock on the last rifle I built. It did the same thing you are describing. Just deformed a little where the hammer hits the plate; hasn't gotten any worse after about 300 shots.

    My Web Page

Now, now, Musketman, if you'll notice it is the first link listed in the "hunting and firearm" list of links. Also there's a link next to the picture of the turkey and flintlock rifle. Not much in the misc. links and picture section yet.

    1770 Early Lancaster Haines/Bivens, it's done!

Rootnuke, what sort of protective finish did you apply to the stock after darkening it with the acid? Also, would you share with us what steps you took to develop your wood carving skills? Again, nice job.

    1770 Lancaster .54,... its a done deal

Rootnuke, you're disgusting! I've been following this project from the beginning and if I couldn't do a better job on my first rifle, I believe I'd just quit. :relax: Actually, you did an outstanding job. You built yourself a rifle that you should be very proud of! Outstanding work! Now...

    HELP!! Stuck Ramrod

Clamp ramrod in a vise and pull it out, or grab rod with visegrip pliers and pull. Might want to pad rod tip with a piece of leather. I have found that if you run a wet patch all the way down the barrel before you try to pull it out it doesn't tend to get stuck like it does if you push it down...
