I just placed an order for smr kibler kit on the b grade. Tell me itll be ok.Has a bark inclusions. I think look cool. I asked for a .45 barrel instead of the .32 that said was boxed up. I hope it ok to request that. I think the bark inclusions make it very unique and it's has great figure in the stock. Ordered the iron nitrate and the steel black. Sure I'll have tons of questions. Been watching Jim's videos on the smr over and over. Seen some videos and that lock is fast. Saving for a wood runner next if this goes well.

OK paid for lock. Had invoice for it in my email. Just paid for it. I'm nervous on this going most I've ever paid for a muzzleloader and hope I don't mess it up. Be searching the forums want put a toe plate on and maybe a patch box

Bark inclusion?.......Been doing this for 1/2 century +. Before he retired , had a standing order for unusual wood at my stock shaping provider. He was glad to have a builder that he could sell finished gun stocks , w/bark inclusions , "wind shake cracks" , and whatever weird stuff that he stumbled onto. Fix is simple , any quick setting epoxie from dollar store , (don't need expensive Acraglass from Brownells) , but what is best is brown epoxie stain to mix with the epoxie you fill the inclusion with. All dye needed is just a tiny amount like what is on the tip of a screwdriver. No more , no less. When the dark colored epoxie hardens , it will match the color of the bark inclusion , and epoxie doesn't indent , like a wood putty always does , when sanded. Same brown dyed epoxie , with a couple pins , will replace an entire forearm if needed , and with dark wood , like walnut , the splice is almost invisible to the untrained eye. Remember , finishing any wood , is 90% technique , and 10% ingredients.................oldwood

Thank you I'll was wondering how to work with that. I'm sure have more questions on the finish. I think it'll look cool.
I'll post what I have once I receive my southern mountain rifle. Already thinking to order the wood runner.

I decided to go with the .32 instead of changing to .45. I have a .36 traditions Shenandoah and love it. Since I'm planning to order a wood runner in .50 or .54 this .32 be for fun shooting and bunnies

My kibler southern mountain rifle showed up today. The bark inclusion is tiny. I've gone through and made sure my parts are all there not that I was worried. Going go pick up sand paper and fresh jeweler files. A mill file and try track down a 1/4 chisel smallest I have is half inch. Read through the instructions sent and rewatched the first video jim has in YouTube on the southern mountain rifle. Ordered the tannic acid after suggestions here and on seeing the pics here. The iron nitrate be here tomorrow. Ordered flints from track of the wolf. Going to dry fit barrel tonight then rewatch the first video before drilling to pin my barrel.

After looking at everything I'm going to get the woods runner next.

You are going to have fun! Take your time and you will do fine with this kit. When you get tired, put it down and go do something else for awhile and come back fresh.

I started draw filing the flats that will be visible. Once done then I'll drill for my barrel pins.

For the bark inclusion, if there's a void, use medium brown CA glue (basically a super glue) and spray with CA glue accelerator. Just build it up in layers. It will set in a second or two with the accelerator. I get mine at the Woodcraft store.

It's more superficial then the pics make it look like. It just may sand out.
