Just so everyone doesn't think that all I do is talk about building a Great Plains Rifle (and making knives), I decided to post a couple/three pics I just took of the rifle. I've been working on the stock, putting a little time in every day. I have pretty much got the cheek piece as I want it. I still need to work it around the lock, then up the forearm. A lot of shaping and sanding to do...

I plan to put a German Silver "Hunter's Star" inlay in the cheek piece, with bit of brass wire garnish. Not too much though, I want to keep it simple as a "Hawken" style should be. Even though the walnut stock has a good color and beautiful grain, I want it a tad darker, with maybe a bit of red. I'll have to experiment a bit with stains before I decide what to do there. Well, here it is, and I'll keep posting my further progress.

You got a lot of grain showing in the wood!
the right color/tinting will really make it stand out.
Looking real nice thus far
