I know some one with a wood lathe and will see if he could turn me a nicer butt plug.I know it sounds dirty but that's what they call them.

I still have some nice apple wood laying around that i want to use for it.
 
I'm sure Horner75 will jump in here later with a full explanation but the short answer is stain. Most often RIT dye. The exact color is usually a mix of two or more.
