For those of you that cast, we're are you getting your softer lead.
I wonder what roto metals get for pure lead. I used to use lead sewer pipe when I was a kid but have not seen any in years.plumbing supply houses. It's expensive though @ $2.20 / lb.
Wish they were that nice around here, most treat lead like it's mercury or something deadly.I have contacts with several roofing companies in my area for lead flashing that they remove when doing a new roof. I get it for free from them, the contractor contacts me when he has about 100 pounds or so saved up. I usually give him a case of beer for his troubles. A pretty good deal if you ask me.
I'd be worried if it's to hard, in now flashing and pipe is soft. That's all the lead I can think of that's soft. I never see that at any of them.Try your local re-cycling place.
The sinkers can be all kinds of stuff mixed in.I scuba dive in a large river in Michigan. Almost every time I dive I pick up a pound of lead fishing sinkers. I have a LOT of lead sinkers. I assume it's soft lead.
I go to 2 yards ever now and then, know the family's of both. They hardly ever have any lead anymore. It's been hard to find lead in N.Y. For years now. Pure lead is super hard. I'll just keep looking tho.Metals recylcling places have it. Look for cable sheathing, sheet lead which some comes from roof flashing or X-Ray Rooms, and lead pipe. Most of those are close to pure. Also plumbers ingots and dive weights.
If you can hook up with any contractor that does demolition work, they usually run across quite a bit of it.
Roto Metals does have it at $2.99 a pound:

You can also find it being sold on Amazon.
I know a few I asked them many times, they just don't get much.roofers are the lead gods
I could, have to specify the lead needs to be soft and not have tin of antimony. I don't need pure lead at the moment, just like to start getting some. I use a bit for casting bullets. With all that gone on here in ny I need to get all I can.Any chance you might find some by putting a wanted ad. on Craig's List?
