I made a derringer kit last year. When I took it to a shoot and tried to hit paper with it I couldn't even get it on the target frame.
This Sunday I tried again, sneeking up closer and closer until I finally found a hole on paper, but all I could manage was a wide shotgun pattern at about 15 feet.
Shooting at more distant target was at least more fun as I could see where it was hitting on the range berm, but an occasional shot went off into space with no indication of where its imapct was.
I was surprised that the .50 rifled bore wouldn't reliably hit a barn door further away than 20 feet. I wonder if I just need to find a better patch/ball combination or just be happy that it goes bang.
Still fun to shoot.
