Beans corn bread and good company, Gods gift to simple men

'Till someone strikes a match! :haha:

I missed this thread originally, just got caught up. I have to respectfully disagree on the steel-cut oats. Best oatmeal goin' is Bob's Red Mill Stone Ground Scottish Oatmeal. (And it is ground between millstones.)

1/3 cup of oats, add salt and 1 cup of spring water, stir once or twice while bringing to a boil, cover and reduce to low heat for 9 or 10 minutes.
Put it in a bowl, add a gob of coconut oil (to nourish the brain) and honey to taste, no milk, and black coffee. Oh! and 10 peanuts in the shell.

That's my breakfast 5 days a week.

Beans and ham or bacon or even plain salt pork is our go to. However, dry smoked bacon or ham ain't sold on every coner. Just as an experiment I tried white beans and peperoni as you can get it anywhere and you can carry it in your haversack like jerky or dry smoked meats.
So I cooked up a cup of dry beans some salt and pepper and dried onion and about a quarter pound of peperoni, it turned out a good bowl of trail food, it's almost an hc sausage.
