You appear to have put a lot of thought into the architecture,.......sort of a subtle "drawing out" of the German lines, into the beginning of the Longrifle.
Wood colour looks fine to me!

It is relatively plain maple, with a moderate amount of curl that shows in sunlight.

This dark rosin varnish makes a really nice golden brown color on unstained curly maple...I am very anxious to do a gun this way.
 
I haven't seen one since "Match Game" was on TV....
