Barrel browning, splotchy on some areas

Browning a 40 cal barrel. Length too long to heat up in our oven. I used a torch to heat for the first coat, part came out great, other part blotchy. Is this a heat or cleaning issue. Plan on using a heat gun for the next coat.

It is tough with long barrels. Cold browns are more time consuming but work so much easier
