I will wipe down my rifle when cleaning. Dirty patches should be thrown out and not for aging the brass. If you actually use your bp rifle it will darken soon enough.
 
I guess that would depend on what you want to use your gun for.
If you do a lot of presentation then you would want it bright, if you do a lot of hunting you would want it dull.
It's a personal thing, I like mine to age and look like they are well used.
