    Exploding Powder Horns

plain and simple, if a powder horn blows up. It is do to exposing it to heat spark or flame. If it happen more often in years gone-by it is do to the amount of exposed flames and spark one would encounter then. If it happens now some one was over looking there responsibility while handling a...

Lubing a bore after its been loaded to prevent rusting ?

The weather is a big factor. As is the type of hunt. If huting with round ball and have not shot the gun. Kowning it will be used the next day I leave it loaded and lube the bore. But it is not something that is done even time the gun is loaded.

    Range results 56 Cal Smoothbore

looks like your off to a go start. And that is a good group at that range. The first shoot is the only one that counts. And that is more then a good group compared to the target area of a white tail deer. More shouting will make sure that you can count on it happening. Have fun shooting. It is...

    Stuck cleaning brush

This might be someting to try. Use a 1/2 dowl about 1 inch long or so. drill out the center so it will slide on a cleaning rod. Next use a large drill bit to cone the end of the dowl. just to guid the male end of the cleaning brush to the center so it can be threaded back on to the rod. A small...

Why do you shoot a muzzle loader?

When I was a little boy they caught my eye and stared my imagination. As a young man they peek my interest in mechanical art that functioned as a tool to feed and to defend. Learned there place in history admired there graceful lines. By the time I was grown they got into my blood. Now it does...

    New MA. Regs.

Those are the one's we do not speak of on this forums. now you might want to bring this up for the fact that you like togetherness. And the fact that we are all on the same team. BUT OTHERS do not see it that way. Impart rightly so. You see to many of us, I should say that loader. TO...

    ? about seamless tubing barrels

I have been a gun guy (nut) my hole life and have many hours in gun shops, gun shows, worked in and owned my own gunsmiths shop. Out of all of the bulged and burst barrels old and new rifle and shotgun they all had one thing in common that never fails to be true: Barrel obstructions...

    Shot Chargers

good to know about the leather keeping powder. Do you use a water proofing?
  17. C

    Shot Chargers

Not a big fan of putting powder in a leather pouch. The English charger would leak powder and expose it to wetness from weather and humidity. Unless the gate was enclosed as in a powder flask. I prefer to keep powder in a flask or horn.

    mold of lead for lead

the two haves would not line up very well. reworking a mold each time to cast a ball. One would do better to tap a bit of lead into a usable ball. with a hammer and a spoon or two. \ Rocks... nails not for long. and the cost of a rifle one would have to be in a life or death struggle or...

    Shot Chargers

I like the English less hands on in cold weather that is a plus. Nothing to lose as apposed to the Scottish or Irish model. Would not want to drop the charger in the under growth, snow, lake, stream, or mud. The plus to the Irish changer is the adjustments that allow more flexibility in load volume.

    mold of lead for lead

There is no way it will make a good ball it would be odd shaped. And the reworked block would not come out the same each time. And as far as time goes are you kidding me think of the time invested. :youcrazy: life is to short. I for one like to shoot round balls let me say it again round...
