Wow, prices for new Pedersoli rifles

Yeah, I remember seeing that video when it came out in the late 60's. It was after I built my first rifle. I thought I'd done a great job on that build but when I saw Gunsmith of Williamsburg, I realized I had a very, very long way to go. Amazing skills for someone so young. By the way, David...

Success at last with trade musket!

So Northfork, how do you like the Pedersoli Indian Trade Musket in general? Is the quality and workmanship good? Does the lock function reliably, do you get fast ignition? Thinking about getting one myself.

    THE WAIT BEGINS!

Sounds like a good coming home present. You will love it. Post some photos. In the meantime, keep your head down.

    Melting pot. Lee or Lyman?

Have used both. Used a Lee for many years until it gave out. Bought a Lyman mainly for its increased capacity. Both give good service. My advice would be go with the Lee since it is less expensive. I would agree that the Lyman dipper is superior.

    Flintlock Touch Hole Pick

I have been using a large paperclip for years. Effective, cheap, and easily replaceable. Has not let me down yet.

    Considering a U.S. Model 1816.

    Pedersoli 1816 Flintlocks

Thinking of getting a Pedersoli flint musket. I hear they are of high quality. But I also keep hearing that they are notoriously hard on flints, springs are too heavy, and can sometimes have unreliable ignition. Seems you might get lucky and get one that's a winner, but these reports about lock...

    Lee,Lyman,or RCBS which mold?

I have experience with all those brands, but only with Lee and Lyman for casting round balls. If I had to pick one for you to buy I would go with the Lee, for reasons others have stated. Some users say double cavity moulds will cast balls of slightly different caliber. I never measured mine, but...

    GPR social

Great gun for the money. I use mine only for match target shooting (not hunting) and upgraded with Lyman target sights, a Davis double set trigger, and RMC touchole liner. As accurate as any. My only complaint about the .50 is that it is heavy.

    1816 Rear Sight

I fabricated an aperture tang sight for a Mod 1816 using a standard 1" corner brace. The brace had two mounting holes for screws. One hole, I enlarged slightly, then countersunk to accommodate the tang screw. For the aperture itself, I filled the second screw hole in the corner brace with J B...

    Pure Lead vs Alloy

I understand the reason for using pure lead for casting round balls for use in rifled barrels. However, is there be any downside to using alloy metal for use in a smoothbore barrel? Is obturation of the ball still an important issue? Just came into possession of mucho precast .45 bullets and...

    Offhand Shooting Stance

I do all of my shooting offhand unless sighting in or working up a load. I would say adjust your position in any way that makes you more comfortable, reduces tension, and allows you to focus on sight picture and trigger control.

    13/16" barrel max bore?

I have a 13/16" in .45 and it is great. In my opinion, this is probably the max caliber you would want for this barrel.

    Help with GPR Flintlock.

I agree with Darkhorse. I replaced my factory Lyman liner with an RMC liner. Works great. I also fall in the "just enough prime to cover the bottom of the pan" club. :2

    Getting black powder in Mexico?

Have to agree with several others here knowing many friends recently traveling to Mexico. Forget about taking firearms/ammo to Mexico. Not worth the trouble, money, or risk. Find some good ol' USA turkeys to hunt. Just my $0.02

    Dixie Gun Works

Growing up in Memphis, I paid many visits to DGW. The first time was in 1966, when I built my first gun. I remember the salesperson took me in back so I could pick out an inletted maple stock myself. This was in their old store. Attending the U. of TN Martin just down the road in 1968, I spent...

    Powder Preference Question

At least for .50 and below, 3F in the main charge as well as the pan should be completely satisfactory. It has been that way with me for the last 49 years.
