Did you get it "Red Hot", or just heat it?

    Bending a hammer

Very long story short, I'm taking parts from an old CVA long rifle kit and building a semi Leman rifle. Is it possible to bend a case hardened hammer? As I'm putting it together, the hammer is not falling squarely on the nipple. If I move the lock, all my inletting will be screwed up. Thanks...

    CVA Kentucky one piece stock

I did this a couple of years ago. The stock was fullstock, and the barrel channel was cut to fit my barrel. Cost right around $100.00. I got the "Leman" stock. It's still on the workbench. About 1/3 way done. WindLaker

    I have an antelope tag!

I applying for a tag this year as well, in SD. One buck & 2 does. We always get tags. Anyone ever Antelope with a .32? I'm kicking that idea around. WindLaker

    Any Leman builds been done?

Fishdog, I'm in the middle of a Leman-style, CVA conversion. I've attached a couple of links related to my build. With those links, you can see pictures that other members here have attached. They are very helpful with my project. WindLaker...

    Bag Design with Fur

A question for all, My Mom was in South Dakota a while ago, and she bought me a piece of Grizzly Bear hide, hair on. It's about 10" x 12". I want to make a shooting bag with it. I've been looking around without a lot of success for ideas. Would it be better to use the "hair" for the flap or...

How hard is the first one to build?

I've built (2) CVA kits. One about 20 years ago, one last year. That is the extent of my gunbuilding experience. I am fairly handy with tools. This past winter I picked up a CVA kit that someone wanted to get rid of 1/2 way thru a renovation...got everything for $20.00. I bought a new stock...

    Lock Inletting problem

Twice Boom & Ehoff, Those are ways that never even crossed my mind. They'll go in the memory banks for future projects. This is my first build without a kit, and I'm doing it kind of on the cheap (CVA metal parts, new stock). If this were a higher quality kit, or a gun for someone else...

    Lock Inletting problem

I did the shim yesterday. Glued in a strip a little less than 1/16" square. I'll trim it, I should be good to go. My next step will be re-shaping the lock panel. I have to "lower" it a good 3/32". I'll be taking off a lot of wood, but I'll be taking more breaks  Thanks again...

    Lock Inletting problem

Professor, After walking away for a while posting my question, and forgetting about it for an hour or so, I started playing with the strip of wood idea. Very simple, very effective. I gotta learn to take more breaks, I guess. Thanks, WindLaker

    Lock Inletting problem

I'm inletting the lock in my "Leman - sort of" project, and I've made a little mistake. I've inletted the lock opening too deep on the bottom of the lockplate. When the plate hits the bottom on the inletted area, it's not perpendicular to the barrel face. The top is fine, because it rests...

    Leman Rifle - sort of...

I'm back, gentlemen... After about a month of work & family obligations, and a week in Cozumel, I'm back to work on my project. Back to the head-scratching. I have both panels sized to the lock, and they are just right. Now comes the lock inletting, and more questions. To inlet the lock so...
