    Virginia Turkey

Finally got some time off after April 15, (I am a CPA) and went to my little get-away in Virginia. Friday, I encountered a long beard with his pants afire. I put his fire out with a load of 5.5's from my 20 Ga. Fowler Flintlock. Had a 9" beard and weighed 22lbs. Real happy about that.

    58 Cal rate of twist

Was looking a 58 cal barrel for a TC Hawken and located a TC barrel but the twist rate was 1:48. Seems mighty fast for a patched round ball. What do y'all think?

    Iron Barrels

Does anyone have any thoughts about the maintenance they had with iron barrels. It seems to me that they would not have had to take the care of them that we do steel barrels. Of course they shot out after a while and had to be "freshened".

    More hunting is Alaska

I know this may sound silly to some people, but I am a kill and eat hunter. I don't like to give meat away to get rid of it. If I can't use it I don't kill it. If I were to go to Alaska, how do I get the meat back. My plans were to fly there and back. Any experience with this?

    Alaska Hunt

In 2010 I will be 66 years old and retired as of 5:30, Friday, April 30, 2010. I would like to plan a 6 week trip to Alaska doing a little fishing, sightseeing and hunting moose, with my flintlock--probably a .54 cal. I do not care to trophy hunt. I just want to take a moose, process the meat...

What is the proper hold for offhand shooting in muzzleloading shoots? Can you use the supported elbow position or does the arm have to be extended?

    Picking Flash hole

I had been reading on the forum about picking the flash hole to create an air space to speed up ignition. Well my ignition was fine anyway, but I had to fool with it and pick the flash hole and all I got were misfires. What am I missing here?

    .36 vs .40 cal

I want a light recoiling gun which will be extremely accurate. I now have a .50, 54 and.62 which I enjoy shooting, but would like something without quite so much recoil. What are the differing opinions on the two cals.

    Leaving gun charged

I am experimenting with leaving my gun loaded just to see if the charge will stay hot after several months. The barrel is lubricated above the charge. Several people have argued that I am damaging the chamber. I don't see how. What do you guys think?

    First Flint lock Turkey

Got my first flint lock turkey at my place in Virginia. It was only a jake, but since it was my first with a flintlock he had to take the load. Killed at 30 yards. Counted five shots in the neck and at least 2 in the head. Going back up this upcoming Friday and Sat for some more early Spring...
