    frist deer for GPR kit

    I shot a doe at about 80 yards with my 54 cal.GPR that I put together last winter. 80 gr. 3f swiss and a patched 530 ball. She was seven and a half years old or older,had no fat on her.I was sitting in tall grass and useing cross sticks.

    sparking Lyman GPR

    I just shot my GPR I put together from a kit. Made some misstates. but even with the cut agaet? flint that came with it,NO miss fires. It was just 3 inches low at 35 yards and 2 inches right. The touch hole don't line up with the pan right. Browning with LMF isn't great.came without a triger...

    50 yd. rabbit

    Hunting with my two beagls today I made a 50 yd. shot on a big buck cottontail. I know I should not have tryed that shot but he was setting broad side,got one #5 shot through his rib cage. One oz.of pyrodex and the same dipper of shot in my 20ga.sxs from Cabelas.We got one other rabbit :wink...

    rabbit hunting

    Got two rabbits with my fowler yesterday would have got another one but I had a flash in the pan. Ounce of shot and same measure of 3f swiss and I prime with 3f swiss. My beagles did there part. I missed two running shots? :winking: Rocky

    Frist flintlock deer

    Late Saterday I got my frist deer with a flinter,a nice eight point. Had a 16 inch outside spread,DNR said it was two and a half years old. Used my GPR 54cal. The ball went clean through at an angle about 80yds away and he ran about 80 yds.With out snow he would have been hard to find he left...

    Flintlock at an auction sale

    They sold a flintlock that had a 23 inch barrel looked to be about 10 gage no rifleing no rear sight,metal ram rod. The lock with a brass pan had N HAVEN on it. No vent liner. The lock worked well. It sold for $700 bucks. Any one know was it a military gun? :winking: Rocky

    Got my Peter Barry from the gun stocker (James Klein) in the white, got it finished and shot it yesterday. Its incredible, no misfires.     April 05 Muzzle Blast Magazine has an interesting artical on priming power by Larry Pletcher. He tested two differant Swiss and four Goex powders for timing,bottom line shooters can't tell the differance,in the speed, it took scientific means. :winking: Rocky

    Set trigger on Lyman GPR

    The length of pull on my GPR is to long for confort. If the back trigger fired it,it would be just right. Now my question is R.E. Davis Co. advertise a replacement trigger that will fit the GPR, will the back trigger fire the gun or dose that straight looking front thing fire it?? :winking: Rocky

    I found a copy of the movie Black Robe at a yard sale in the Soo ( Michigan). Some one on this forum recomended it as a good muzzleloader movie and it is. 1634 Quebec.Matchlocks. I enjoyed it. Rocky

    plating balls

    I used to copper plate fish hooks to keep them from rusting by puting them in water with salt and pennies. Reading the post on Remington balls I though I could plate lead ball the same way, WRONG it don't work with lead. Rocky
