    Brain tanning

I hope this is the right place for this post. Ok like most of us i always like to try new things and try to do them myself. I finally made my first attempt at brain tanning a deer hide today. I searched the internet (sorry but i'm cheap, i hear there's a lot of helpful books for sale). Anyway i...

    Wedge Tent Set-up

Well apparently a West Wind was a whole lot more interested in my tent the other day. After getting it set up and going to work a wind storm did a number on it and i've got it in a local canvas shop getting repaired. I haven't even taken it to a voo yet and i'm already getting it worked on. I...

    Wedge Tent Set-up

I finally got a tent that i really enjoy but the only problem is that i can never get it set up alone. I love to be the first one at a voo and because of this, i'll be setting it up alone. Does anyone have any tips?? I followed the instructions that Panther provided and they work great for two...

    Non-whitney blankets?

I've had great luck looking in "junk" shops. You know those antique shops that aren't exactly classy? Anyway, i've found some great wool blankets for less than 5. The last one i got was a red wool blanket with single black bars on each end. I got for 2 dollars. I think I just get lucky on wool...

Want to contact other reenacting groups in North Texas

You should get in touch with the Comanche Peak Muzzleloaders group. They're sort of in your area. They're down around Glenn Rose, you know, the dinosaur park?? Anyway they're not too terribly far from DFW maybe a couple of hours drive. The country's beautiful and they put on a good rendezvous. I...

    Brady Texas TMLRA Shoot 03/10 -- 03/12

i guess i caught the end of ya'lls conversation, sorry i missed it. There's a nice rendezvous in Howard County in April if you need a place to be. There's not much for shade but good people and a fine trail walk. The best part is of course the "fun shoots". Our bunch will also be in Buffalo Gap...

    small stove

One of the guys that i run with made one out of an old propane cilinder. He just turned it on its side, took the neck off and cut and hinged a door. Another made one out of an old 20 mm ammo can. Just be careful with the cilinder. Things under pressure like to blow up given the chance. :m2c:

    Local Herbs and Spices

We call K weed loco weed around here. I heard it makes you hallucinate. Any way, the reason i was asking is because i was planning some trekking this fall and i was looking for something that the good lord provided to season my supper with. Ya know, something native and something i could find...

    Mattress,cot or...?

I use an old military stretcher. They fold up nice, are easy to cover up, and they sleep real well too.

    Novelty Targets

One of our groups does a lifesaver shoot. We also do a "can shoot". It's done in teams. You fill one beer can with water and one is empty. The empty can goes on top of the water filled can. Shooter 1 shoots the water filled can with a rifle, near the bottom causing the empty top can to fly into...

    Camp Lantern

I know it's not very PC but one of my buddies made me one out of brass framed glass ceiling fan globes (ya know, where the bulb goes) soldered together with a box frame. It works great and will withstand rain and wind without any trouble. :results:

    Patch Knives.....

i use those Old Hickory knives too. I found mine hanging on a side display near the other utensils. I usually pick all the butchers at junk stores and garage sales for around five bucks. I recently gave two as a gift. I had some deer antler laying that i used as a handle, anyway long story short...

    Another new guy

Got 40 acres to play with here. Not much but it keeps me very happy. For those who asked i shoot a .50 cal CVA Hawken and the same in pistol. One day i'll spring for a more acceptable set or irons but for now i got a wife and two daughters who let me have a few of my own dollars when i'm lucky...

    cow hide

I emailed braintan but they didn't get back to me. No offense, they got a great site. I was gonna make some saddle bags and maybe some mocs out of it. It was used as a floor rug for a while but my friends dog liked using it as a piss pad. It's not servivible as a whole but it's got a bunch of...
