    Brass scope mounts?

Recently did a little bartering with a fellow, traded off one of my Hawken guns and a reproduction brass scope. Packaged everything up bullet-proof....or so I thought. I have learned that the USPS can destroy a box of roundballs! I could get past that, it was the brass scope mounts they lost...

Protects the patch....I use a wad in every black powder rifle I own.

    .54 TC Hawken

The only problem I've ever had swapping barrels was in the hooked breach, had to trim a Hawken hook just a tad to have it drop in my Renegade. Once that's settled you can swap at will.

Do a search here for contact info for Mr. Ed Rayle, Gasaway, WVA., that's who I've heard good things about.....

    1" Barrel from 54 to 58 cal?

As long as the barrel's integrity isn't in question I'd say absolutely. I know that the 1" platform on the TCs can be taken all the way to 62 smoothbore, I don't know if it can be rifled that large but smoothbore up to 62 is pretty routine IIRC. Try a search here for Mr. Ed Rayle's contact...

    cva 45cal #00696211 date rifle

I've got one of them, barrel reads the same with serial#0041721, bought it from a fellow forum member here. Absolute tack driver, I thank him every time I shoot it....

    .50 vs. .54

Barrel for barrel in the same gun the 54 will be lighter than the 50. Less metal in the larger bore. For most ML (close range) hunting, ranges will generally allow you to load down, here again the 54 will shine.

    barrel thickness after Freshening

I know with certainty that, barring any integrity problems, the 1" TC barrel can be taken out to 62 smoothbore. I've read, but not personally seen, that they can be rifled as well..... I used the 1" 62 smoothbore from GM for my Renegade, seemed like there was plenty of metal left over for rifling.

    50 vs 54 cal.

A little more downrange energy maybe with the 54. As far as accuracy that rests entirely on your shoulders as both are capable of great accuracy. I solved this delimna with a TC Hawken and 50, 54, and 58 caliber barrels....range and terrain determine which I might mount that day..:surrender:

    TC 58's

LOL, I'm still trying to figure why, when you get to 58, you might need more lead? :hmm: I've got a 32" GM 58 on my TC Hawken, I thought 54 was enough til I shot it. Doesn't seem to matter what you feed it, always hits the black...and always with authority.

    First Shots

You gotta a concealed weapons permit? If I'd gotten a Renegade and all the toys you got for $125 I'd figure the buyer saw the bulge of the 1911 and didn't wanna argue.... :surrender:

    Safari Arms 54 cal Hawken

Wish you were right sir but I checked every sporting goods and chain store for over 150 miles when I needed 54 supplies. Ended up ordering virtually everything online. Plenty of pellets, shotgun primers, and 50 caliber stuff for those foul pseudo-muzzleloaders but finding anything 45, 54, or 58...

    choosing 36 caliber

Not sure I understand the reasoning or the logic. Can you explain?
  14. L

    choosing 36 caliber

I thought seriously about a 36 or 40 but here in eastern NC, while we don't have huge deer, it's not unheard of to kill a 160-175 pounder. I carry a 45 squirreling just in case a good one drops by, ya never know what you'll see from the stump....

    Renegade Stock Modification???

I put one from an old Kentucky on one of my Renegades and when I ordered a precarve from Pecatonica for another build I also ordered a Bridger-style steel buttplate for it. I'll warn ya, if you shoot stout loads you'll appreciate a little more width or a good lace-on recoil pad.

    Curly maple for Traditions?

I'll agree and they're not that expensive. I picked up a really nice grade 3 curly maple precarve for my TC Hawken from Pecatonica for just over a Franklin shipped. Sadly, it's laying on my bench awaiting just a few more final touches but that's my fault(and Hurricane Irene's as my workload...

    Origin of Primitve Weapons season?

When did the original primitive weapons seasons started in your state? I've been doing some research, particularly for North Carolina, and haven't been able to determine what year ours was initiated. A little help please!
