As I try to get a better pattern in my smoothbore 20ga trade gun, I realize that 25yds is my limit. I was wondering if I could send the barrel off to someone and have it jug choked?
Any ideas

Or sell it and get a modern gun!

Kind of amazes me how folk like the idea of going trad muzzloader but expect it to reach like modern shotgun.

Part of the fun is getting close enough for it to work.
And some of them use components used in shotshells because they they think it'll give them the edge when in fact it's making things more difficult!

Heck, my . 45 smooth bore works at 25yards.

Part of the “fun” is NOT wounding a big Tom turkey, and loosing him. Turkeys are big, tough birds, much bigger than those cock pheasants. And where we hunt them,is a bit more rugged terrain.

Yeah, who said anything about wounding?
I did say get closer.
You turkey hunters rely on head and neck shots on a non flying bird right?
These pheasants were flying and I can't aim just for the head or necks!
So I've got to get killing pellets to penetrate their body, break wings and or their heads or necks. So if you want to compare I think I've got it harder!
I do the same with woodcock and partridge. How are they easier?

Sounds like you bought the wrong gun for you or your terrain.
What loads you running?

They can run?

Like what's the big deal about this bird being so easy to kill just standing there waiting for some cityot to plug it with 1bb is good does the job hunting them with bb gun now

The open choke is better for close turkey.

It's the same as a Pheasant running.. just bigger bird smaller target.. ooh the trees brush n stuff.. need a 4ga

I use a Pedersoli 20 gauge Trade gun. I am shooting 80gr FFG, wool wad, 1 1/2oz 5 or 6 shot, and a cardboard topper to hold the shot in. I am experimenting with , powder-corn meal-shot -topper. At 25 yards I should be okay. I am looking for a 12ga double barrel, for a follow up shot if necessary.
I shot a nice Tom last year, he was knocked down, but got up and ran off before I could reload. I still relive this scene in my nightmares!
I have no idea what Trigger is talking about!

In my Pedersoli trade gun I use around 60-70 gns of 3f or 4f. Thin over shot card's X3 and about 1-1&1/2oz.
Can't be doing with all the experimenting. I'd use leaves before I bought anything!

That's around where I am with a load dp10ga for what the cyln choke is the pattern wasn't bad with 90 2f.lol.. I just started backing off as I shot Pheasant and settled on 70 2f for 1.5... I do have to shoot that at paper but what ever it looks like it's good

I think same load turkey.. if it's knocking Pheasant down you. Are good. I do like less bbs in the Pheasant and more in a turkey head though so choke tube lol..

Don't have the dp10 targets. ..

These are tc12ga... first try targets using the pyrodex. 20 yard

I like the cyln pattern.. I have to try this thing for the pheasant.

Well I gotta say Nathan you hit the nail on the head on this one cause 20/25 yards is plenty but I don’t shoot turkey but still think a turkey is doable at 20/25 yards with CB gun .
