I don't think they know people use it for patch lube...

And yesterday when I was down at the co-op I was told you can mix a little Dawn in with your foliage killer and it will help it stick to the leaves better.
Is there anything Dawn can't do? lol

Apparently it cures hangovers, but only if yer Asian…

@Rifleman1776 made a joke once about a shooter who shot .440 in wool blanket patches lubed with possum poop in a .54 and won the matches.
The fact is if you follow safe loading practices what works is what works best for you and it’s the best
Ml are forgiving, I really don’t think there is one absolutely best way
Spit is great but not best for hunting. It’s good to swab between shots but dry climates are different than humid climates.
I like animal fat. I use mink oil, but lard also I can’t tell the difference, but I continue to buy tge expensive mink oil… just plain snobbery
And if it weren’t for snobbery we would have no dead horses to whip

This is just one of many times this idea has been presented on this forum since I joined 18 years ago. It works great. I don't use it as a patch lube any more because I don't use anything that I wouldn't use while hunting. So, while others use it to shoot without wiping, I use it to wipe between shots 😅

i am in the lowcountry of SC, our humidity in the summer is awful! if swabbing is necessary anywhere in the country it is here! when i started shooting ML a lot i thought it crazy to have to wipe a barrel out ever other shot, i knew there had to be a better way. when i learned the secret i never looked back. Johnny cash had a particular rhythm he played on every song, a reporter asked him once, why do other singers play a different rhythm on different songs, and you play the same one on every song? without hesitation cash said, they are still looking for it, i found it ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I've used spit at the range for the last 45 years but am tired of the occasional gag reflex, lack of spit, and putting a dirty ticking rag in my mouth.

Yes, I should have used the search function, I admit that, but we are getting some different takes on it now.

Keep on posting things you like and things that work let the folks that already know about it just skip over and move on .I have read about using Dawn before but can always read more

Lotsa replies to this one. Dawn is good for cleaning. Your idea should work fine for swabbing/cleaning. For swabbing between shots I use plain ole spit. Always available.
Yup, spit every bit as good as a soap and water concoction. It's what I use hunting or any time just shooting out of the bag. Otherwise a spray bottle and the soap and water.

At our geezers breakfast this AM one discussion turned to Dawn liquid for pest control, etc. After listening to MANY uses/misuses for the miracle liquid I through in that you could also use Dawn in you car for motor oil in an emergency. Everyone looked up from from their their plates with this dumbfounded looks on their faces. I let them sit there for a few moments as this was certinly not the stupidest thing ever said at our table.... then added "just kidding..you know" :D

It does not take much dawn. I use a small spray bottle gleaned from my wife's closet of health and beauty aids. Holds about 3 oz. and lasts half a year. Literally 3-5 drops of dawn, just enough so you can start to feel the slickness. 50/50 as mentioned above is extreme overkill. I learned this from a long time Champion shooter ( like 1st place champion multiple years). I put a little alcohol in it in the winter to prevent freezing since all of my stuff gets stored outdoors. Best and simplest lube I have used in my 30 years of muzzleloading. The few times I am shooting in the field and not at a range, I use a spit patch.
