    Somewhat satisfied with Lyman

I have been very satisfied with my Lymans. I have a flint.54 GPR that I got as a Kit and it went verry smoothly and I just picked up a use GPR cap in .54 that shoots way better than I do. Now if I can find the brouse button I could post Pics.

    1851 navy

I just picked up a 1851 navy made by euro arms brass frame and case hardened plunger. It seems to like 20 grns of 2f with shortning over the ball I use a .380 round ball because the .375 seem to slide right into the cylinder. What do other people shoot with their 36 cal 1851 7 1/2" barrel. Loads...

    My ML hunting year

Well it's been a while and I have missed the forum greatly. Well the last time I poasted I was going to try my hand at black bear with my GPR in flint. Well I had luck seeing bears but they were a sow and her three cubs two nights in a row. I took a shot by the sow to scare her off but it...

    .54 cal loads for deer

My most acurate load for my GPR flint .54 is 75 grns of 2f goex. I can hit a frying pan at 100 yardsoff hand with this and it punches through, so from what I'v read here and my own experimenting this load will do me fine out to 100 yards. In fact I'm going to use this load for bear this fall. F.K.

    Common misconception or .....

I have read that the chunck gun shooters somtimes use a mallet and a short starter to start there balls because they are so tight, and if this dosen't deform the ball I don't know what will. Mabey someone with more experiance on the matter will chime in. F.K.

I'm envious of your guys Long and generous hunts and Bag limits.

There are some places in Ontario where you can get up to 6 tages. These areas are about 5 hour dives from where we live. Over near Ottawa, and down in the south western part of the province. where there are a lot of deer car colisions and crop damage. One area is about 6 hours away but my...

    Lyman GPR 54 cal loadings

I can only tell you what works best in my GPR, every gun is difrent and will like a difrent charge. I use .020 ticking with 4 to 1 water "Balistol" mix , Soke patches over night, leave out on a piece of melamine all day to dry out, 75grns of 2f Goex .530 self cast ball will cloverleafe at 50...

Uncontroled except at formal shoots. F.K.

    Where do you shoot primarily?

I shoot off my back deck, but mostly at a private range 1/2 hour away $125.00 a year but good people. It's a little expencive but we are trying to improve it every year so I don't mind paying a little more. F.K.

where would you start for a load?

From what I've read on the forum, rule of thumb is 1 grain for every caliber Ie: a .54 would start out with 54 grns of 2f or 55grns and work up in 5 grn increaments. F.K.
