I am going to take my 58 Cal Zouave, deer hunting this season. This gun shoots the 525 grain minie very well. Here's my question.....the minie is not a very tight fitting projectile while dancing in the woods....it's fine at the range. Just looking to keep that minie tight on the powder...would a shotgun wad/ card do the trick from my 62 cal smoothy...of course with a little trimming ???????? Thinking of putting that wad / card ontop of the Minie.....whadda think ??????? Thanks

Nessmuck56,

I've shot a Zouave "replica of no particular firearm" for well over 2 decades, using my 530 grain homebrew Minies. = Never had a problem yet in the hunting fields.

yours, satx

I'd think that wad may work, I'd test for how it affects accuracy and make sure it kept the bullet tight. Sure would be the simplest solution.

Other suggestions: a coat or two of Lee liquid alox may be enought to tighten it up, or you could try a paper patch. There's a thread going on in the Shooting Accessories subform right now called "Lyman Minie Molds" that is discussing paper patching. If you wanted to avoid anything but lead you could try beagling your mold.

Good luck and happy hunting
